It's the third round, there are no "needle movers" lol....and truth be told, no one in here is in any position to give an expert opinion on who they took. Just gotta wait and see. It's a long-game thing outside of the top 15 of the first round. - LeftCoaster
How did the swingers party go last night?

If they can get him to engage all over the ice in all zones. You might get a player like Brandon Montour. Otherwise you might have to settle for an offensive D like Sean Durzi. Or an AHL stud.
When watching Kitchener play he wasn't good but it was hard to ignore that he was one of the more intelligent players on the ice when he wanted to be. - manvanfan
Huge upside kid, he's 18 years old and won't see an NHL game (most likely) for another four years. He has lots of time to develop and be taught pro skills. You can't teach IQ though. |

I pointed out wait and see and one poster took offence to that.
I said I like the first pick and the rest doesn't mean a lot to me as Mini pointed out you can get a Drury low end NHL player (Bear Stecher) or you can get a good AHL player. Either type I don't get too excited about but I do like Willander.

When a player falls five to ten spots I wonder why, when they fall thirty spots it raises more questions. I mean basically every other team passed him over by real scouts. Again wait and see. - VANTEL
After round 1, really falling 30, moving up 30 is just random. |

Just so you know, because I know you're interested, the Flyers had an EXCELLENT draft....WOW!!! Probably the most skilled player in the draft who will be better than Bedard, the top rated goaltender in the entire draft, a good right-shot dman who's one of the best skaters in the draft, plus a good amount of depth kids. Times, they are a changin in Philadelphia. - LeftCoaster
good bet they bottom out again at least once too.

Flyers did have a very good draft. It is great when you don't have a meddling owner who doesn't tell you to start winning when you are in the thick of winning the Connor Beddard sweepstakes.
I think the CBH had the best draft. Some slick trades today, plenty of cap to pick and choose and of course the first OA. Too bad they are a scumbag team.
Columbus also had a good day and NJ. |

He wasn't very good any of the 4 times I watched Kamloops out here. Meek, and perimeter. Not a guy that's there for the tough areas or board battles. Not what you want in a winger. - Load Management
Those are things that can be easily worked upon. To get a PPG WHL player in his draft year in the 7th round. Normally PPG CHL'ers are gone by the 2nd round. |

It's not as if the pick is special. It's just that he has skills that as long he can develop the little things, will make him a little bit better than someone who has the tools but lack the natural stuff. |

Cal Foote won't be qualified by Nashville. - VanHockeyGuy
Rick D says he doesn't get the feeling he fits with Canucks.

I would say Buffalo had a very good value draft.
Carolina looks like they are not interested in viewing players just using their analytics team.
Minny had a good draft.
Nashville I think did really well. A very good mix of everything.
Philly looks like they might have finally got some intelligence in the front office. San Jose as well.
God damn Seattle had a good draft. So did STL.
I'd give the Canucks a B- at best. |

Flyers got an absolute body crusher in Matteo Mann in the 7th round...huge kid!! Brackett got excellent value with Riley Heidt in the second round, last pick, damn he's good! (Brackett)
In the past 20 years only 5 U18 WHL skaters produced more than Riley Heidt. This was such a deep draft...incredible!! |

It’s crazy to me to think that at the first rankings last September Heidt was ranked 10th overall, and finished 5th overall in WHL scoring(3rd amongst draft eligible).
I watched him play probably 8 times live the last 2 years. I think there’s going to be about 10 teams that regret that they passed on him twice. |

For me it's just refreshing they are finally trying to address the Defence. That in and of itself is a win IMO.

Canucks are picking overage players and players that aren't even top 40 in scoring in their leagues as overage players. |

They didn't have a chance at him with no second round pick. I really don't understand the overage thing though, puzzling!! I get that it's the fourth round and you're looking for value there but there were 18 year old kids with more upside than that kid they took 105th OA.
And just for clarity, teams don't just draft for points, you need cost controlled kids who can defend as well. There's six guys after the top six guys that need to contribute in other ways. |
