There’s still a cap minimum. My guess that other than a handful of players they’re going to be a young team.

They still have several players to sign, didnt need to give 4m to perry.
But good on him, he can rest this spring

Hawks are only $3M from the floor with 6 players to sign. They don’t need Perry @ $4M for that.

I hadn’t looked yet so thanks for telling me.

Well then they’re willing to overpay for the guy to basically be there and ensure nobody (frank)s with Bedard. They have the room and maybe he simply wasn’t willing to play for the hawks at this point in his career unless they overpaid notably.

They wanted a gritty vet with former top 6 experience is my guess. I won’t be shocked if he’s the one put onto the ice everytime someone tries to play rough with Bedard.

Bedard can expect a scrum after every whistle that he’s on the ice with Perry. Having him play with an agitator doesn’t seem like the best plan if the goal is to protect Bedard. If the idea was to pay a 7th and get a better pick at the TDL, a $4M cap hit makes him less attractive even if it’s only for a month.

Right so your proven wrong and this is your reply. This explains so much - it's clear all you want to do is be miserable and complain about the Leafs even if what you say is fabricated BS. Enjoy that.

Would any cup contender be willing to take him on tho? They have already maxed out what they can do with salary retention.

I know it was a different time but I remember my cousin telling me about when Melrose literally iced him with Gretzky for this specific purpose during the playoffs. Otherwise yup, he was a 4th liner.

I think the point sort of was that lots of contenders would have taken Perry and a lot would seek him at the TDL if his salary wasn't so crazy. That $4m salary will still be about $1m at the TDL and if you're looking at value added for your dollar, Perry's inflated AAV could just keep him in Chicago. Likely it won't - teams are suckers on July 1st and at the TDL - but it could plausibly lower Chicago's return as a result.

Yeah I get that but it’s still a genuine curiousity of mine. Sure he’ll only be about $1 million but the overall cap by then is just over $20. Altho I am willing to bet Chicago would take on the necessary cap dump with a pick in order to make it possible for another team to take him on as well.

Ignoring that RNH has an NMC and Edmonton also couldn't afford Nylander's extension cap hit - but the truth is that you're worse against the cap in that situation for this year. Bouchard wants $7m I think on a long term deal; even on a bridge he's looking $4.5 - $5 I believe. Throw in Nuge's $5m and you're at $10m this year. Nylander and Lilly put you at $8.4m this year, but if he's asking $10m, coupled with Lilly's impending raise next year, that would put the Oilers in for $13m+.

The bigger question is why $4M. On top of that, there’s zero chance you’re going to be outbid for the guy.

Ok, well being nice to a vet and pre-planning to retain all salary for a higher pick at the deadline? Making him live with Bedard? Secretly planning to have him assassinated and luring him there with an unreasonable level of money?

So I keep getting July 1 deadline messed up in my head.

What are the "must dos" for Treewaiting today and if he doesn't poop happens tomorrow? Sign or trade Matthews and Nylander?

Busy day if so.

That's good in theory except Perry doesn't fight or very rarely fights. What's he going to do when someone messes with Bedard go spear the guy? If overpaying for someone to protect Bedard was the goal why not overpay a Ryan Reeves or that type of player? Perry is a 4th liner at this point anyway.

He's a Cup winner who has gone to 4 Stanley Cup Finals and has almost 200 games of playoff experience. I dunno why they gave him all the money other than being nice, but I understand why they would want him. I assume they've made a back room deal guaranteeing he will go to a Cup contender at the deadline.

This was the risk I was saying Perry is taking by signing with Chicago - that nobody wants to pay the price for him at the TDL and he watches the playoffs on TV and I find it hard to believe he would be ok with that. Then again maybe he really just wants to cash in and has given up on the 'do anything and go anywhere for another cup' dream.
