They wanted a gritty vet with former top 6 experience is my guess. I won’t be shocked if he’s the one put onto the ice everytime someone tries to play rough with Bedard.

I seen't a tweet that made me laugh. Chicago lineup next season-

Hall - Bedard - Reichel
Goon - Goon - Goon
Goon - Goon - Goon
Goon - Goon - Goon

I'm sure in the minds of the Blackhawks what they did makes sense but I'm with you as far as if the goal was to protect Bedard then get a guy who at least puts some fear into guys like Wilson, Reeves (who is a UFA) etc.

End of the day it's Chicago so the care factor is pretty WGAS anyway for me, just seems like a huge overpay for the worm who is 38.

To put it another way is Perry 65% better than Kampf is? lol

- Cush29

It's baffling. Perhaps they're trying to inflate his TDL value with an offer to max retain on any deal? Yes, that does seem silly but...

That's good in theory except Perry doesn't fight or very rarely fights. What's he going to do when someone messes with Bedard go spear the guy? If overpaying for someone to protect Bedard was the goal why not overpay a Ryan Reeves or that type of player? Perry is a 4th liner at this point anyway.

They're probably gonna try to. Which sucks, because apparently the Leafs want him.

Would prefer re-signing Willie and trading Mitch but that ain't happening.

Nice knowing ya Bill...

Don’t think a 10 team list is going to force a trade today.

Meh who cares, there isnt much cap room out there and CHI giving insane contracts just means FA players may need to take even less.

Yeah, I can't imagine how his deal could be viewed as anything but market value.

Having said that, I'm looking at you now Willie, Auston, and Mitch!

- mjones242

Yup. It's been reported that Matthews is willing to leave money on the table to help the team, but his level of pay will still be way up there. Nylander, it sounds like, isn't doing this. And if Marner is going to do this for his next contract, he'd be making less than he currently does.

Perhaps not. It's sort of a "soft deadline" in a sense.

8 years though.

Contract is going to look very nice in 4-5 years

- Santo_44

For sure. Unless something unfortunate happens, and he gets hurt. But I think he'll most likely remain healthy.

The Winnipeg Jets are processing Blake Wheelers buyout. He will be on waivers today. There will be a number of teams with interest in signing the veteran as a free agent, including the Dallas Stars.

I'd want him on the cheap but your right if Chicago wants him he's getting what 5M?

Oh, for sure. Maybe $1.25M-ish.

I certainly don't want to get into a bidding war. I just want the heavy weight champ.

That's my fear.

Teams that employ or recently have employed Reaves, win the Cup.

I see nothing but a win in doing this.

So you agree Auston Matthews is a fighter then cool!

And great strategy, post a parting shot in a passive aggressive way so you can have the last word and then claim a response is just me having a desire to have the last word.

No hypocrisy there at all right?

Take care

- Cush29

Love how you address 1 single fight is even to being the top 5 in the league.

In your eyes 1 = 9, actually 10 if we’re including playoff fights, sounds like extremely strong mathematics.

I agree but sitting on the issue might mean they pass on some things tomorrow (UFA) which could limit their options down the line.

Filling any hole might be easiest tomorrow.

I'm sure that won't drive or rush their decision but it's got to be a consideration.

Yeah I would rather pay him 1.25m than some scrub 800K on the 4th line.

He has a clear role.

Plus I think players just love having him around, which is valuable.

I think the Leafs can always offer term for these old guys because they can afford to pay them and not play them if they want.

“The Leafs paid $2.4 million for a 4C”

David Kampf was:

-7th among forwards for average TOI (12:36)
-1st among Leafs forwards for avg. PK TOI (2:38)
-utilized in the D-zone more than any other forward (72.8% D-zone starts)

Playing on the 4th line ≠ being a 4C

They're lucky half their games start in the early afternoon. Since they're gonna run 4 hours deep.

But the other half are late games. Gonna be playing into the wee hours of the morning. Well part Bedard's bed time.
