Great timing for Twitter to be down.
It's sounds quite bit like both Mayfield and Varlamov are staying. The question now will be where the resto fthw $$$ goes

Yeah agreed but you still can’t sign over 30 players to long term over valued contracts. Not sure how many times we need to do that before we realize it’s a mistake. I say that not knowing exactly what his contract will be of course but if it is something along those lines it’s another misstep imo.

No idea why you would want to run this team back. I get if it's a young and upcoming team.

It’s a combination of him wanting to resign these guys because of success from three years ago, which I don’t agree with of course, and him not really having a choice. Now that he has resigned Varlamov and Mayfield(or I should say IF he did) we will not have any room to add any new faces unless he finds a way to unload more salary. Not that I ever thought that would happen but that should eliminate the thought from anyone’s mind that was hoping it would.

Exactly right. I just question, since they were mediocre and went out in rd 1(which they don't even sniff without sorokin) why would Lou run the exact same team back? Hell, I heard he is even bringing back the same pp coach. Is he incapable of changing this team for the better or just unwilling?

Running it back and the Islanders should still be a competitive team. If the idea is to win the Cup, I do not think running it back works. I’m sure Ledecky and Malkin want to win and want more than just making the playoffs.

I think Lou really likes his vets and likes a certain style of play and it takes a lot for him to change up the roster. Much easier to change the coach.

Andrew Gross;

Believe others reported this earlier on Twitter but am hearing #Isles  definitely in on Alex DeBrincat with J-G Pageau possibly headed back to Ottawa if a deal is made.
Sounds like Varlamov's deal is done and Mayfield deal still being worked on.

Anyway, that's what I'm hearing.

Today is THE day!

Pageau and WHAT would go to Ottawa for Debrincat?

No issue having to move JGP for a wing.

And a first. I doubt very much it would just be Wally and JGP. Should be enough salary to sign him with JGP’s contract out. Certainly not saying it’s going to happen but it would work.

Yeah I like JGP but I think you do this without even thinking about it. We were discussing doing exactly this, not necessarily for Debrincat, but moving JGP out for another player.

Have to think a #1. If you add DeBrincat maybe you move Bo with Nelson and you have a good top 6.

This makes absolute sense as almost half Debrincats goals come on the PP, which we all know needs help

Moving JGP in a package for a needed wing makes sense.

But if you move JGP, then who would be your 3C?
