Reubes is a good guy, a guy I call a friend, I was just pushing back at the gloomy projections he has developed.

He claimed we will be a bottom 10 team next year. We weren’t a bottom 10 team last year. So in the geniuses opinion:

OEL Schenn Hirose Dries > Hronek Soucy Cole Blueger

They absolutely crushed free agency: will it be enough to make the playoffs? 50/50 but at least we have a little more size and a lot less chaos on the back end

I said it looked that way to me. Not just based on what Van did, but what other teams did as well. If I look at the 4 lines and 6 D, yeah it probably is better on paper … on D for sure. Forwards I mean I liked the horvat trade too, but can’t dance around the fact dude got like 30+ goals for the team. No guarantee if the overhaul on D will be a good fit either. I agree almost anything better than last couple years with OEL, but again we’re a Soucy or Hronek injury away from putting a lot of pressure on a thin corps behind them. It sucks we’re stuck with Myers for another year. Seen all I can take of him. Hopes were up for a trade with all the smoke and rumours, but figured he’d be tough to get rid of. If any team watched the tape they’d see he’s just a blatant turnover machine, often with very little pressure … and zero offensive instinct. Pretty expensive pill for anyone to swallow. Probably best for Van to swallow it for one more year and be done with it instead of giving up assets to dump, as hard as he is to watch. I just don’t know how you can say you want to be competitive and have that guy on your team … seems like an oxymoron or something.

You know, the more I look at the draft, not knowing at this point if any of these kids will ever become anything, the more it pisses me off they traded for Hronek. I get it, they want to win now, but they could've drafted three young defensemen in the first and second round this year. Like Willander at #11, Axel Sandin-Pellika at #17 and Lukas Dragicevic at #43. That would've been a beautiful haul. Why can't Vancouver ever have nice things?

I get it. Maybe it’s better to not have hurt feelings by making fun of a team that constantly has been bad for a decade. So the terms of those who are positive gets made fun of too. It’s safer to be negative than have positive expectations I suppose.

For me I just take it as it comes. Would like things to improve and see some progress. At least this time the plan seems to be executed better.
