Steve first rounders for TB. 6oa Connelly, 27oa Namestikov, 10oa Koeokkok, 19oa Vasiy, 3oa Drouin, 19oa DeAngelo, 27oa Howden, 14oa Cal Foote
He wasn't there for Stamkos, or Hedman but was there to for others. His first rounders have always been not very good. - manvanfan
He didn't draft Cal Foote, he was already gone to Detroit by then. The depth of his drafting outside the first round has probably been top five in the league over his time in Tampa. Which is more a product of who he puts in place in the amateur scouting department. I think it was Plandownski? Vasilevskiy was one of the best first round picks in the past decade!!
I think "always been not very good" is a complete reach by you to try and support your position. Considering his draft positions I think his first round picks were pretty average, and when he did mess one up, like Connolly, he quickly made a decision to get some value for them. Drouin for Sergachev.
Howden and Namestnikov were traded for McDonagh and JT Miller, the former was a big part of their Cups and Miller was traded for a first round pick Brisebois used to get Blake Coleman who was also an important part of their two recent Cup wins.
Regarding purely first round drafting, yeah, I won't disagree, it's been pretty average at best. |

Dorion has really (frank)ed up the Senators with Debrincat and Chychrun trades. 7, 39 and a 3 rd this year for Debrincat. Might be lucky to get a 2nd round pick back honestly. 9 m to add 6 players pretty well. 6m would be the most they could really give Debrincat. |

Why doesn't he just pay DeBrincat? Give him 9.5 million. What's the issue? The kid scored 100 goals in the past three seasons! |

On April 19, 2019, the Red Wings announced that Yzerman had been hired as general manager of the team,
Didn’t realize in 2017 Yzerman, just kidding you’re an idiot.
Literally what I said that there are many dumb GMs out there to fix draft mistakes.
No, Stevie did not draft Hronek and it’s Stevie’s first rounders that most suck and his later rounds were his better players.

That was always the best part is fixing their mistakes. Connelly 2-2nds to Boston. Drouin to Sergachev. Lots of dumb GMs out there. - manvanfan
That's what I was afraid of with Hronek initially. I know he's older, but what does he know that we don't. Was he worth the picks ... will there be trouble re-signing. |

Sorry, wrong Foote, I thought it was Nolan Foote not Cal Foote...you are right.
But yes, I agree with you, his ability to fix mistakes and the all-around greatness of his abilities as a GM make him one of the best GM's in the past fifteen years. |

He was a minus 31. He’s the older version of Cole Caufield. Who got 7.8 on an 8 year deal. |

Flip flopping again! So now it’s the late round picks that Stevie is great at! GM’s don’t make those picks but keep believing he is the best GM fanboy |

Stevie inherited a lot when he got there to TB.
He didn’t in Det, it was a Gillis type mess and now people are knocking him because they are unsure of his plan 6 years later. Situation sound familiar to any recent Canuck GM? |

I think many people, yourself included, apparently, are reading too much into it. Yzerman just felt the team isn't ready so he wanted the best possible return he could get to utilize the draft, which Allvin gave him. He got Axel Sandin-Pellika, Brady Cleveland and Kevin Bicker for Hronek. |

Unlike Boeser, I think DeBrincat's bad +/- is more a product of their team systems. Fix that!! |

He got good value that turned more into fair value. I mean they now have Holl at 3.25m for 3 seasons and when those picks might arrive.
Stevie knew his team is nowhere near competing. He just wasn’t going to let assets waste away like Benning always did. |

Six? Where did the extra two years come from? He got there in April 2019 so 2020 would be one year. 2021 year two, 2022 year three, and 2023 year four. |

I’d take Hronek and Mueller over even the ceiling potential there. |

Doesn't matter what you would take, you're just a blue-collar worker in jerkwater Manitoba who knows nothing about building an NHL team or scouting, he's a multiple Stanley Cup winner both as a player and an NHL executive. What he thinks is infinitely more important than what you think....sorry! |

Stevie Y is a benning clone. Perhaps that’s why Lefty loves him so much. He needs Jim in his life |
