I don’t get this at all. How can you have the deep prospect pool over a dozen years? It would mean you are constantly rebuilding. Canucks are a young team as well with more prospects filling up roles. - Quinn's Quest
Sorry typo ... edited. Meant their prospect pools are both down at the bottom of the league even after Boston has had relative success during the last dozen years and Vancouver has been mostly missing playoffs.
As much as I hate the bruins, since 2011 at least they've been able to take a few shots at the cup again ... and had mostly very competitive if not elite regular season teams. I'd take that any day vs. the canucks. The fact that the teams' prospect pools aren't that far apart vs. the rest of the league is pretty infuriating based after the last dozen years. - Sayros
Aah history…
Irrelevant when so many fans say cup or bust. All that matters is what comes next. 31 teams didn’t win. As for me I can enjoy hockey for what it is my fave sport. A fresh start & the beginning of a new edition.
Don't think Pod will ever live up to his pick. I like the kid, he tries hard but he's a pretty straight laced get in on the forecheck maybe bury a few here and there kind of player. I don't think years of development is going to change that. Not really looking back pining for Boldy, but there's a more back there as well caufield, newhook, krebs. Alas, this is the life picking always picking 10-15 ... not going to be a can't miss prospect in those spots and it's always going to take some luck and development ... and luck. - Sayros
I hearya. That draft hasn’t looked the strongest imo. What I want from Pod is being noticed each shift. A puck hound & dog ops with a motor that doesn’t quit. Set a work ethic example. Bring more physicality getting in ops head.
I don’t disagree, they did a great job at remaining competitive for a decade after 2011, primarily because their key guys they won with in 2011, Bergeron and Marchand, were 25 and 22 years old. Chara was 33 but he was so good into his 40’s.
Unfortunately for them at some point you need to rebuild though, a fate they’re going to have to accept whether they like it or not. - DraftandDestroy
You could certainly make the argument that they should rebuild now. Still a playoff team but no where near a contender and they slowing down

If Bergeron and Krejci call it a career they don’t really have a choice.

No worries. Well yeah they had a good young core during that time that now has aged out. Where the Canucks aged out sooner and haven’t rebuilt one of their own. We see a few players but you know how hard it is to get it all together. Canucks just kept making mistakes swinging on fixes.
Maybe they follow the retool on the fly VAN model? - VanHockeyGuy
The retool wasted 8+ yrs under JB & FA’s plan. Mission imo is setting a team identity 1st & foremost. Within that is a RT system that begins the foundation to proceed.
For many years the fans have cried we’ve never seen a true plan. There never was one. It was folly to grasp at the brass ring & change has begun.
It’s all on the current regime now to get outta the gate not being outta the PO hunt before November ends. That will be on the coaches & players once training camp & beyond starts. Offseason training will be my 1st scrutiny. 2nd will be the fight to make the team & prospects pushing the competition. That should lead into a very good farm team season. Organizational depth & success top to bottom has to be a major focus to begin a long & sustained ascension.
On the ice team D & the PK has to see huge improvement. In goal I feel good about it. Speed & tenacity & win more puck battles will be demanded by RT & company.
WC is the realistic goal but no matter what consistency is a must.
I've always said VAN needs that junkyard dog kind of player, I hate to use Tkachuk as an example but like that only nastier. Granted a very difficult player to find. - VanHockeyGuy
Sadly other than Joshua, this might be the closest we have
Puerto Escondido in Oaxaca (cool fishing, surfing village) - VanHockeyGuy
Lots to research lol
What I’m thinking is a 2 bed 2 bath place that a Mgmt company can rent when we’re gone. No time shares. In the beginning we’ll go down for November & February. Work is very busy in BC & need the motivation while looking at retiring. Winter vacations to miss winter work the employer cannot deny me lol. Idc if it gets me laid off cuz I can return again. Usually on the road & only work 4mths/year spread out from April til September. Working more than that has to have a snowbird reason behind it or we’ll just vacation & I’ll only work a few 2-3 week jobs a year starting 2024.
