I'm not sure you fully understand how the cap works. His cap hit is not 3 million at the trade deadline. The point I was trying to make and you clearly missed is Myers salary is 1 mil this year. Which is less in actual money paid when you pro rate it at the TDL. Contending teams will always find a way to make the cap work at that time of year regardless. The small paycheck is a nice little bonus.

Obviously you like Schenn more than Myers. But insinuating Schenn would net you more at the deadline is ridiculous. Even more ridiculous is thinking we're only gonna get a 5th for Myers at that time of year.

I'd diagram this out for you, but I feel I'm leading a Camel to water at this point.

I fully understand all of that... so get off your high horse. You clearly don't understand how it works. Cap hit for myers would be pro rated but so would the yearly cap for the team. Making a 3 mill hit much harder to take the 900k hit like schenns was. Myers is negative value and low value even with 50% Cap retention.

And I don't like either player.

And you thinking Myers has more value then Schenn did last year based on play and salary is laughable. They only teams that GAF about actual paid salary are bottom feeders trying to reach the floor. These teams won't take Myers unless we add a sweetener, they are not making playoffs so why would they take Myers at TDL.

I think this is where some, including myself, take issue.

They are up against the cap with a crappy team. Their defense was horrendous so they patched it up a bit with some free agents.

Were they as stupid as they've been in past years in free agency - no. This I will grant you but all that does is keep things stationary at best ... not moving in the right direction. To me the right direction are things like not doing the Hronek deal. Drafting that extra player. Trading Miller before the big contract kicks in (better yet trading him before signing him but ship sailed). These to me would have been steps in right direction for the new management. This is why I am critical. The rebuttal of course is well ... they won't rebuild.

I take issue with that as they won't even re-tool. Rebuilding would be fire sale Arizona, Detroit style. But re-tooling can mean taking advantage of assets, especially when they're peaking, while knowing that no matter how good that asset is ... it will not be good enough for the current team/mix to be competitive or at least playoffs.

I don't see a problem with the team, I get exactly what I expect when watching the Canucks, a nice nap.

Big meetings for Canucks scouting staff on July 27- August 4th, in Plymouth Michigan.
With USA, Sweden and Finland the only 3 countries playing at the WJSS, should make scouting easy for this group, no need to bother scouting anywhere else

Cap space is cap space, teams cap space doesn't shrink at the deadline........just the cap hit does and it's a substantial amount.

At the deadline, there are usually about 41 days left out of a 186 day season. That means that at the deadline, a player's cap hit will only count 41/186 of their annual cap hit on the new team.

Essentially, that's around 22% of a cap hit you need to fit under your salary cap, 11% if a team retains.

I don't think the Canucks were a good team last season, but I also don't think they were as bad as their record.

Their goaltending was the worst it's been in years, whatever the numbers say. I think it will improve vastly this year.

They've changed out half of their D corps, that really can't be any worse and I suspect it will be much better.

I think their forwards improve entering camp just based on how much better EP was towards the end of the season, Kuzmenko having a year's experience, Mikheyev being healthy and some older prospects getting ready to contribute.

IDGAF what Reuby says, Mikheyev is a good hockey player.

I actually think they have a better shot at the playoffs than they have in years.

Honestly do you think our D will be nearly the poop show it was last season? Demko wasn't good to begin the season neither. We didn't get a win until our 8th game?

Beauvillier and Hronek make 8.55 million between them, plus both are due a raise after this season, so not seeing where the cap savings are.
Also Hronek cost the 1st acquired in the Horvat trade, plus a 2nd round pick.

You are starting to get as bad as Lefty with your math and disinformation. I may have to make Booner aware of this, he will set you straight.

Beauvillier is due a raise based on what?

If you're talking about Myers being traded halfway through the season, yes his pro rated cap hit is 3 mil.

It's much less at the TDL which is my point. If they eat some, even better.

- Load Management

In real money cost is only $500k.
