Ok. I'm all for getting a top line Wing in a trade.
However, if 18-29-21 is the 2nd line that puts Lee on the 3rd line making 7m.
Could they move Lee? - chazpet
I do not believe they will drop Lee any lower than the 2nd line.

His add value is in front of the net….he’s a beast there. The power play was just so poorly ran last season that it never made it to the front of the net. To this day I cannot believe the PP coach had no other entry than the drop pass to Barzal, who tried stickhandling through the entire team. If they can set up on the PP I can see Lee back to his old self. - kindlyrick
The issue here is that both Lee and Horvat play in this general location. They need to split them up and not have them on the same unit.

A five deal would have been loyalty. Even that is a bit much for a bottom two guy. He is not a bottom four guy. You cannot continue to sacrifice the future. Ladd, Bailey, a few current Islanders. When are GM's going to learn. You do it once and a while okay. But management team is handing these contracts out like Halloween candy. - Nfdbulldawg
It's how they keep relevant players here. I don't think it's a coincidence that players that are in their prime avoid this team. Been that way for as long as I can remember. I think Lou has figured that out and does what it takes to keep them. He allowed Varly, Mayfield and Engvall to all get to UFA to show them what they would be offered and then said, instead of 2 years for 8.5M, here's 7 years for 21M |

Alex DeBrincat...What are your thoughts? Its seems clear that he can put the puck in the net. Having potentially being acquired and place along side Horvat and Barzal...Could this be the piece the team and fans have been longing for?
I could see Walhstrom as part of the deal going the other way with (do not shoot me) draft picks.
Speed, goal scoring, and power play numbers are all what we are looking for. - Nfdbulldawg
They will certainly have to unload Pageau and possibly another player to fit his salary. I would think Wahlstrom would be included in the deal. I hope they stay away from additional picks |

You just have to wonder what's really going on. Did Lou finally show his signings before September to convince a potential trade candidate that our roster is set with them?
And the fact that the Isles name is in a rumor should scream not happening by now. |

There are multiple sources on different levels pointing the Cat going to Isles. The question is what is the price? - Nfdbulldawg
I would say JGP, Wahlstrom, and a 1st. |

Possible. Lou is definitely calculated just wish he were a bit more strategic. |

I would think it would have to include a first. There’s no way they’re trading him for JGP and Wahlstrom alone. If they do that’s a windfall on Lou’s part. |

Would have to be along these lines. Maybe a prospect (Dufour or Durandeau) instead of a high pick or prospect and lower pick.
Ottawa spent a 1st, a 2nd and a 3rd for him last year with 1 year left on his RFA contract.
A lot of OTT fans are saying the team doesn't need/want JGP for that amount of money for a 3rd line. Would have to move that money to make it work. Would not think OTT would accept Palmieri, Wally and prospect and or pick for him. |

Pretty sure Palmieri has a NMC if so I doubt he waives to go to Ottawa. Also, I think we value prospects like Dufour and Durendeau a helluva lot more then anyone else does. I don’t think they move the needle trade wise but I’d rather give them up then a first of course. |

The unknown here is Cat's cap hit. He has no contract; he's an RFA with arbitration rights. Chances are that to make the numbers work, JGP has to go to Ottawa with no salary retained. That makes this a tricky deal for Lou. But to his credit, Lou is not afraid to roll the dice when the situation warrants.
Meanwhile, did Barry sign Bailey yet? |

According to capfriendly. JGP and Palms have modified NTC. 1 player with substantial cap hit will have to go in any deal. I dont see how Lou can pull this off but thats why he makes the big bucks. I saw a trade for Kyle Connor on there. Would like to see Lou come up with something for him. |

Bailey is putting a lot of time into deciding which offer is the best for him.
All kidding aside I feel for the guy he obviously isn’t ready to hang them up. |

I am a huge JGP fan. I love what he brings and has brought since he came here. But you have to give something to get something.
Wally has been a but of enigma. So much potential yet it has not been unleashed. Add the recent health issues...More him before he has no value.
1st round in 2025...That player unless #1 overall would not have an impact on this team til 2028 at best.

JGP could be a top six if given the opportunity. The way he takes draws and the ability to play all situations. |

Also Nylander might still be an option as the Leafs are chasing Bertuzzi and need cap space. It will be interesting how things play out. |

This would require a huge payroll dump somewhere else and the Islanders don't have the parts to entice both the leafs to give them Nylander and another team to take a Lee and Palmieri type contracts.
Lou's other options are 1 of either Lindholm (but I think he's a C) or Hanifin. They don't move the needle like a Debrincat would and no one knows what Calgary is planning or wanting. |

Mayfield was rewarded for his Islander loyalty and a possible buyout down the road for a guy who rounds out the bottom 4 for the next few years is not a bad risk reward. Sorokin and Varly still make one of the top tandems. With more possible growth of Aho and Salo plus counting on Dobson to improve, however that offensive flair on d and the pp still is not there since the departure of Leddy.
Forwards situation is still a golden opportunity for any' UFA to join a contender with top goaltending. - Fan101
Any UFA willing to take less than $1 million because that's all the cap we have left. |

Don’t forget about tarasenko who wouldn’t cost us anything besides money. He’s a little long in the tooth but at this point what’s the difference?
To me at least it’s more unpredictable what he’s going to wind up getting then any other player this off-season but if there’s a way to get him locked up to a reasonable non 7 or 8 year contract I’m all for it. |

That’s one player I’m on board giving up a first for. He’s talented and young enough that it makes sense. I have my doubts it’ll happen I have a hard time believing it would be a package centered around JGP but who knows. Sens will be more then likely challenging for a playoff spot this upcoming season JGP is exactly the two way player you would want for a young up and coming team imo. Not sure Dorion agrees with that though. |

From an article from the 4th period -
During Dorian's press conference on Saturday, he mentioned that they came close to a deal but that Debrincat is looking for something in particular and that has jammed things up. |

Sorokin and Varly locked up fine. Varly maybe 2 years too much but we're good for 4 years. Mayfield 4 years too much, Engvall will eventually be a 4th line guy when Martin and Clutter are gone and cap projected to rise over next 2 years his hit isn't too bad.
We need Debribcat. Simple as that. Without a scorer we're doomed. |
