I think he would still need to move players out like jpg to do that and I'm not moving him unless it's a done deal for term on cat - Upstate_isles

He's our 3c that's good at faceoffs and the pk but horvat is as good as him in the circle. Gotta give to get so I would part with our 3c and wally if it landed a 1w. Isles have issues scoring so I'd like to see the offense addressed as they seem locked in on d of a while (7 tears of Mayfield)
Edit this will probably end up like Johnny hockey |

Oh JGP?
Yes I agree. As much as I would hate to lose JGP I would send him to Ottawa as part of a deal to bring the Cat here.
By Wally do you mean the wing who needs to play with Barzal? |

Supposedly it’s pay day for dipietro. If you compare these contracts to that, not too bad |

No nerve struck trust me. I read these posts and just laugh typically.
I Don’t remember reading any solutions. I do remember the trade Nelson suggestion last year. You did own that which is more than I can say for most of the biggest Debbie Downers on here.
That said, What’s done is done. Lou obviously has done the wrong thing again. He’s been wrong since he has come here according to the internet GM’s.
It’s so easy spewing trades, signings and contracts after the fact.
It’s also easy when your ass isn’t on the line. - nyisles7
Yes I did talk about trading Nelson in the past. I also gave my reasoning for doing so. At the time his value was probably at the highest it has ever been. He was the most tradable asset not named Sorokin or Barzal. What else was going to get the biggest return to help this team???
Not that I need to justify anything to you or anyone here.
I supported Lou obtaining Hovart. My thought was you are obtaining a top 3 player for an enigma in AB (who I liked by the way), a hit or miss prospect and an unknown. I am fine with the extension and term he received.
I supported Lou obtaining JGP for three draft picks. The guy has been awesome on the dot, PK and the energy he brings to the team.
I have supported Lou obtaining Palmieri. I think it was a good move that has been derailed by injury the last year or so.
I was probably one of the people on here that support Lou giving up a #1 for Romanov.
Up until reading that Debrinkcat saying he will only sign a one year deal I was all for moving whatever needed to be done to make the deal happen. To me now Lou should wait on him. Focus on Nylander.
Nylander will probably cost picks and maybe a prospect as Leafs cannot take back salary. My feeling is make it happen. Why because Lou has a good track record of signing guys he trades for.
Which leads me into Engvall. He showed promise with the small body of work. Did he show enough to warrant a 7 year deal??? I do not believe so. To me those types of deals are reserved for your elite players. I could accept a 3 or 5 year deal.
As far as Mayfield goes there were other options. Oliver Ekman-Larsson I mentioned when he was waived. 1 year deal $2,250,000; Luke Schenn 3yr 2,750,000; Carson Soucy 3yr 3,250,000; to name a few. It would have given the team a little more time to see who steps up prospect wise (Bolduc, Salo etc...) For the record I am more concerned with the term than the monies. He is a bottom 2 guy.
Varly, not happy with the term, but I understand why Lou did what he did. Not to mention that he knows what was out there and what he has in Varly.
"That said, What’s done is done. Lou obviously has done the wrong thing again. He’s been wrong since he has come here according to the internet GM’s."
According some, yes Lou has dropped the ball again. And you know what there are plenty of people out that feel has done a great job. That is what makes this blog work. If we all agreed on everything there would be no purpose of this blog but too just ass slap everyone for a job !!!! |

It appears that the Canes are picking up Tank...Multiple sources have him going there. Good pick up for Canes.
East will beat its brains in and the Oilers will emerge as cup champions next season !!! |

Seravalli's thoughts - Nfdbulldawg
"The Engvall deal is especially confounding. Pierre Engvall? That contract isn't even tradeable," Seravelli proclaimed. "To go seven years on Mayfield and Engvall? And then Varlamov at that term? I don't understand it at all. Not even a little bit. They basically said this is our team for the next four years, and they weren't already very good."

- Cptmjl he's somewhat right. However, if they can add a scoring forward that contributes big time on the pp, this team could get much better as we all watched the main problem of lack of pp production deep six this squad throughout the season. Add in a full (healthy)year of Barzal and Horvat together, and you could be looking at a big improvement. Its not ALL doom and gloom. (Just mostly)

Staying healthy is a big issue. That generally doesn’t get better with an aging lineup. If they can stay healthy, add Debrincat, and Dobson bounces back we’re more then likely in a pretty decent spot. Sounds simple but we both know that’s a stars in line kind of situation. |

This is a key component to the success of the team. It will take some pressure off the second and third lines. It could also give the second and third lines more opportunities.

They won't be a bad team. The question is whether they're a Cup contender. Because all of these immovable contracts...the ones they had before this offseason and the ones they just signed...are going to look real ugly one day, and the only thing that'll make it worth it is if they win a Cup before then.
If you believe the Isles are a player or two and some better luck away from a Cup, then the moves they've made from Horvat-on make sense, you're probably excited about the next couple of years, and you're looking forward to seeing if Lou can add the missing ingredient.
If you believe this group peaked two years ago and the organization should be thinking about going in a different direction, then every move Lou makes that either burns more future assets or doubles and triples down on this roster with long-term commitments just looks like digging the team deeper into a hole it's inevitably going to have to climb out of.

Good article in The athletic today by Kurtz. The internet GM's should read it. Especially the elite HB GM's Girls club. |

A lot easier to make those decisions from Mom's couch in the basement when you're on the internet and you have no skin in the game.
