Yes I did talk about trading Nelson in the past. I also gave my reasoning for doing so. At the time his value was probably at the highest it has ever been. He was the most tradable asset not named Sorokin or Barzal. What else was going to get the biggest return to help this team???
Not that I need to justify anything to you or anyone here.
I supported Lou obtaining Hovart. My thought was you are obtaining a top 3 player for an enigma in AB (who I liked by the way), a hit or miss prospect and an unknown. I am fine with the extension and term he received.
I supported Lou obtaining JGP for three draft picks. The guy has been awesome on the dot, PK and the energy he brings to the team.
I have supported Lou obtaining Palmieri. I think it was a good move that has been derailed by injury the last year or so.
I was probably one of the people on here that support Lou giving up a #1 for Romanov.
Up until reading that Debrinkcat saying he will only sign a one year deal I was all for moving whatever needed to be done to make the deal happen. To me now Lou should wait on him. Focus on Nylander.
Nylander will probably cost picks and maybe a prospect as Leafs cannot take back salary. My feeling is make it happen. Why because Lou has a good track record of signing guys he trades for.
Which leads me into Engvall. He showed promise with the small body of work. Did he show enough to warrant a 7 year deal??? I do not believe so. To me those types of deals are reserved for your elite players. I could accept a 3 or 5 year deal.
As far as Mayfield goes there were other options. Oliver Ekman-Larsson I mentioned when he was waived. 1 year deal $2,250,000; Luke Schenn 3yr 2,750,000; Carson Soucy 3yr 3,250,000; to name a few. It would have given the team a little more time to see who steps up prospect wise (Bolduc, Salo etc...) For the record I am more concerned with the term than the monies. He is a bottom 2 guy.
Varly, not happy with the term, but I understand why Lou did what he did. Not to mention that he knows what was out there and what he has in Varly.
"That said, What’s done is done. Lou obviously has done the wrong thing again. He’s been wrong since he has come here according to the internet GM’s."
According some, yes Lou has dropped the ball again. And you know what there are plenty of people out that feel has done a great job. That is what makes this blog work. If we all agreed on everything there would be no purpose of this blog but too just ass slap everyone for a job !!!! - Nfdbulldawg
Agreed in some saying Lou did well. It isn’t on here typically. Since the summer Lou came this site has blasted first his hiring and then basically every deal that he’s made. We were going to suck from the first year he was here. Quite honestly it’s been a very successful 5 years. Especially when you compare it to the 2 decades prior. It’s not everyone on here but you know who the Debbie Downers are.
On trading Nelson after a career year. If Barzal has a career year this year and gets 100 points are you going to trade him because his value is high. I never understood this logic with high end players. |

A lot easier to make those decisions from Mom's couch in the basement when you're on the internet and you have no skin in the game. - nyisles7
Unfortunately, my application for running the Isles' front office is still pending
Honestly, though, you can say that about anything. We all give our opinions on politics, business, entertainment, restaurants, etc. even though we're not the ones on the hot seat making the decisions. And I'm sure we all work jobs where we do make decisions that other people comment on whether we want to hear from them or not. That's life, really.
On an Islanders hockey blog during the offseason, I'm not sure what else there is to talk about other than whether or not we agree with the moves and direction of the team. I think we all know we're just fans BSing here, though. |

Yep. The funniest thing is I don’t think there’s anyone on here that dislikes lameriello save for one or two people. This is why I don’t even bother with this nonsense. Nonsensical nonsense always. |

Agreed, It's fun reading opinions and ideas for sure. However you don't even have to come on here to know what the Doom and Gloomer's are going to say after a signing and trade made in the last 5 years. Without anyone of them stating what they would have done differently. It's comical really if you think about what has been said about the team starting 5 years ago and the success that they have had. Especially after the 2 decades of a poopshow we called the Islanders before Lou's arrival.
I actually think lou over paid on the sOrOkin deal. I get the term but I think 6 to 7 would have been the number.( As i said on our pM's ) He is great yes, but he hasn't won anything yet as far as PO's and I think he was not spectacular in the PO's this year. His contract is the Highest goalie contract since Vasilevskiy got 9.5 million per. He has earned that number. Comparatively Sesterkin's contract he signed was a bargain. That said the Cap should go up considerably so I guess that factors into the AVV since covid halted any increases for years. |

#Isles have signed forward Julien Gauthier to a two-year contract and forwards Karson Kuhlman and Brian Pinho to one-year, two-way contracts.
Depth signings.
Sounds to me like maybe Parise decided to hang them up |

He’s decent. Big and lots of energy. Absolutely adverse to shooting the puck, so he’ll fit right in. |

Somebody else has to go. They only have 300,000 plus left and they have to sign Whalstrom. I wonder who is going?? |

Parise too, unless I'm right and he's retiring.
There's more coming. Whether or not it's anything significant is another story, but there will definitely be more news of some sort. |

Sounds like Alex Debrincat to Detroit is still very much alive
I really get the feeling the Sens/DeBrincat is just using the Isles to drive up the return/contract offer |

Could be chief. It is what it is. We will need to see how it plays out. I cannot comment on these offseason moves at this time. |

We just do not know. Plenty of risks with a possible deal. DeBrincat being from Michigan and Stevie Y running things would seem to give them a huge edge. |
