$4.5M for an aging 3C is not something the Leafs can do. (frank) him and the horse he rode in on. - winsix
That’s how I feel about him too. His best years are in the rearview mirror. |

would say there might be a bit of that with Dubas leaving. They had established a good thing but the shakeup likely played a factor, albeit minor. - Roadrunner75
Well, BT can't just come in and duke nuke the roster: that'll blow up in his face and he'll look stupid.
He needs to see for himself what's going on.
We know more players are going to be signed, that's a given with the roster holes we have, I just think everybody is waiting out some of these high prices; no reason not to wait until the ask comes down.
Same with Nylander: anybody dealing for Nylander wants a sign and trade and who can afford his ask, an ask that has to be flush enough for him to leave because I do think he wants to stay here.
Who's doing a sign and trade for Willy at 9.5M right now?

I agree that we were better off letting ROR sign elsewhere. Dubas left Tree is in a tough spot with little cap space and few prospects.
Reaves signing is a nothing signing for me as I believe if he is in the minors the Leafs are only on the hook for 200K of his salary.
Klingberg is a one year experiment to try to give the Leafs a PP quarterback.. I would have probably preferred to see Gustafsoon at under a million try but clearly Keefe is not a fan.
They will need a trade to free up cap space to sign anyone else i think. otherwise we have our roster for next year

I think we still have like 6M with Muzzin on IR. Plus Murray's probably gone too. |

Guys are hating on Klingberg but were frothing at the mouth for a Karlsson trade.
Obviously Hot Karl is better offensively, but that's a massive cap hit with a lot of term left.

They have 443k in space with Muzzin counting towards the cap. |

Doesn't every team have to be under the cap before the season starts to utilize LTIR?

Yeah, but you can be 10% over the cap until the season starts. |

Robertson's $$ is included too. Cut him out for now and it's about 6.9M plus whatever they expect to save by punting Murray and signing Sammy (~1M).
That's 10F, 7D, 2G ...need a pair of forwards, minimum. |

Yes, 10% overage, but as soon as the season starts you have to be under, not including LTIR.

You can use LTIR to make you cap compliant on opening day but it affects/lowers your LTIR Pool. Don’t ask me to explain what that means in practical terms but you can be over..

(frank). A bit expensive too.
I would have much rather seen Acciari at 2.4 than Kampf if that's what it took. You don't need to pay that much for a guy to take D-zone faceoffs and not much else. - joel878
Glendening is dimestore Kampf. Better bargain probably. |

They could do if they didnt have 50m tied up in 4 forwards and 1 dman.
Hes easily a 2nd line C and thats what he would have been in Toronto |

Bertuzzi looking for 5-7 years North of 5M
Domi looking for 2 years
What's a little bit of a pay cut for Domi? He was willing to take a pay cut to be a leaf last year but Dubas said no.
Seriously do not have a clue what a right cap hit looks like for Domi on the open market for any team. 4M? Idk. |

You probably know better than me, Toronto goes through this every year. Maple Leaf fans are the salary cap officers of the NHL.

Because of the Inconvenient Five, Leafs are stuck with just one 2nd line C |

5 years and anything under 5.25M I would lock him up.
Domi is tough ...I like his '(frank) you' swagger - this team is desperate for some of it. Can you hide his weaknesses by playing him with 34 and 16 (like they did with Bunting) ..and then maybe he's worth 3M to play the Bunting role (but with more toughness)? That'd bump Knies down to line 3 where he could drive some play. |
