I heard it was $10M. He's sore that Marner makes more. Leafs need to get less soft and hardened on the boards. You might lose a few goals, but your GAA would also go down. Calgary is not on Willy's do not trade list. There are multiple targets of interest there.
- PrinceLH

Lol. What.

Why would he be pissed Marner makes more and want less.

It's rumoured he's asked for 9 and comparables are signing for a bit less than that, not insane at all to think he settles at 8.5. At that point he's of more value than Marner at Marners current salary before mitch even gets his raise.

If Nylander wants crazy money, other teams may not bother to trade for him when they are not willing to extend him. Nylander holds the cards. He can just say he will not extend with anyone, and he becomes untradable (for value). In that case, Leafs are better to keep him for this year and let him go to UFA. Bid for him there. They wont get value for him now, and Leafs shouldnt do a salary dump now and lose a 40 goal scorer for this season. Players today are hired-guns. Expect no loyalty. And that's fine.

Cap update ...

Assuming Murray can be erased by trade (if not factor in ~675k less space after a buyout).

And assuming Sammy is about $3M on a 1 or 2 yr contract.

Leafs would have $3M in space with 1 more middle six forward spot to fill.

That starts the season with 12F, 7D, 2G.

Does $3M buy you Domi, Tartar, P. Suter? ....

- The Law

I'll take Domi out of that group but thinking of roster construction I feel like they could really use him and another middle six forward.

Bertuzzi checks one box but they're still a top 6 winger short. It would be nice to have a guy like Domi on line 3 to play with Knies, punt Kampf to 4th line C where he belongs and have Holmberg as 13F.

Not sure how you fit that, you probably don't.

Yea, no one wants a 87pt, 40 goal scorer on their team.

Leafs have a golden ticket with Nylander. They’ll get a massive haul for him.

Ya, I don't see them (or many contenders) carrying too many extra skaters. Caps just too tight. Carry the 7th D only I think.

This is a great pickup. A solid left winger with grit is exactly what they needed. He's a better version of Bunting IMO.

Even after signing Tyler Bertuzzi, the #leafs are still poking around the free-agent market to see what else they can do. I don't believe the door is fully closed on Max Domi at this point.

5m seems like a lot for bert.
But good signing nonetheless

Pridham gonna Pridham… Bertuzzi and Domi would be as home run of an off-season as you can get given our cap space.

Yup, after very underwhelming contracts ended out on day one by Treliving, Bertuzzi, if he can stay healthy, will be a very good player for the Leafs.
- Scabeh

Agreed. Don’t get why the Wings couldn’t sign him. No signing bonus?

You also don't give him a $10M credit card when Timo Meier got $8.8M for compatible numbers. Willy is a one dimensional player that can score but his defense is suspect, and he doesn't kill penalties. He had a career year, because it was a contract year. Get the best trade you can for him and save the cap space.
- PrinceLH

Why does this keep being said?

He's got another year on his deal. This coming season is his contract year.

Not if other teams wont or cant extend him beyond this season...they will offer tokens, and the Leafs wont, and shouldn't take it. They will get a 'haul' in a trade if the other team and Nylander can agree on an extension. If its crazy money, the Leafs may have trouble finding a trade that will give them value.

Trade Brodie and Robertson to Van for Brock Boesner. (Matthews buddy ole chum)

Trade Nylander for Zadarov and Coleman.

Lose Murray's Cap hit.

Bertuzzi, Matthews, The Brock
Knies, Tavares, Marner
Coleman, Kampf, Jarkrok
Lafferty, Holmberg, Reaves

Rielly, Zadarov
McCabe, Klingberg
Gio, Lilyjigren
Timmins

Samsonov
Woll

Let's go (frank) some poop up!

(Plus Zad and The Brock can re-sign if they work out well when the Cap goes up next year)

- underhill14

I've no problem with trading Nylander, if it helps the team. But that's another trade the Leafs lose. Badly.

Homer run already happened when we didn't re-sign Holl.

This would be close to a walkoff grandslam.

I give EK a heck of a hard time usually, but he did suggest Bert to the Leafs yesterday, so I'll give him a LITTLE credit.

Imagine if Brad trades Nylander for Kadri?

That would be a nice group of forwards.

Leafs will win again when they turn heel.

Bertuzzi Matthews Marner
Tavares Kadri Knies
Jarnkrok Kampf McMann
Lafferty Holmberg Reaves

Shoulda kept Accairi, but oh well.

. I didn't say Nylander but a 6'6" left D who hits like a truck and can pot ten goals is something we've never seen on a Leaf team...

- Buck Norris

Yuskevich, though no way near 6'6", did a pretty credible job for a few years.
Though by today's rules, half his best hits would have probably involve suspensions.
