Hughes was the 3rd best player in that draft class based on talent and ability and now 6 GM’s have egg on their face cause they were scared of his height.
Caufield scored a million goals in his draft year and fell due to height. Ditto Debrincant, but he fell to the second round.
Logan Stankoven, Olen Zellweger.
List goes in and on.
Zach Benson and Matt Savoie were the Winnipeg Ice. And we have both.
Instead of being a wise ass, celebrate - Swedish_Jesus
I have no idea what you’re talking about. What does Filip Zadina have to do with Benson or Savoie.
Why are you so damn defensive about every single (frank)ing thing on here.
I very much remember this blog after Zadina got past I think it was four clamoring that Buffalo should trade up for him. I believe Gerbe was leading the charge at the time as well.
Several draft analyst during the draft, called Zadina “the steal of the draft.”
Two/three years later yes it’s Quinn Hughes but again that’s revisionist history.
Again, this has nothing to do with the Buffalo Sabres even though you think I’m taking a shot of Kevyn Adams because I have no idea why |

I believe the headlines were something like “Detroit accelerates rebuild with steal at 6th in Zandia” |

Honestly not a bad point.
We should celebrate this stuff since we can’t celebrate playoff wins or cup wins - sbroads24

Gotta make the playoffs for those stars to shine....that requires a balanced roster which allows the stars to play to their potential. |

Can't take both without significant retention by Toronto as Buffalo has less then $6M in cap room.
Even at 50% retention, it would leave the Sabres with only a million in cap room, and 26 players on the roster.
In real money, it would be nearly $7M, even with 50% retention.
Can't see the Peggy Bank being open to that. - kingcong39
Toronto is almost 9 million over cap
Heard nylander is definitely being moved
For futures |

I think people will be annoyed with Johnson about 1/4 a way through the season.
He’s not very good. And is not a top 4 D if that is the plan
Clifton is a massive wild card. betting on a guy who’s never done it to do it consistently. - ImThatGuy
Think I'll go by what Colorado fans have said about him
Perfect 3rd pairing guy especially for young team
They loved him there |

Toronto blew up their management and team to infuse snarl into the roster. Moving Nylander for futures would only add to that, I am very interested to see how it works out.
The Sabres prospects do not add up to the talent in Toronto and they are willing to rid themselves of high end talent to obtain it...look to see what costs are as Buffalo will be in that boat soon. |

Gibson just demanded a trade and says he's not playing another game for the Ducks. |

Toronto having to move Nylander because they signed Domi and Reeves is absolutely hilarious.
As a Sabres fan, yes Toronto keep doing what you are doing.
I give Treliving a year or two before he gets canned. He’s not a good GM. |

Just saw that. Maybe he waives his no trade to come here?
Adams has wanted him since literally day 1 or the job |

That's one way to look at it, it's not like it worked with Nylander.
I look at this offseason for Toronto as a preview of what the Sabres are going to run into, the NHL roster and prospect pool is not well balanced and the culture being built is focused on speed and talent....sound familiar?

Why bring a Dman into the convo, who played 20 less games than the plug and finished with one less point.
And yes let's blame good passes for Stone Hands missing good opportunities. - Buff36
Why wouldnt I bring "your guy" ef bear into the convo?
With your other guys the cat, and the chickenrun.
Girgensons lacks the soft goal scorer hands / touch for sure. He's there, just doesnt finish the job.
Double digit goal seasons are respectable, troll on.... |

That was last year when we were more of an unknown. Does the growth and vibes last year make him change his mind? Are Erik Johnsons comments true? Has perception of buffalo changed around the league. He’d be closer to where he grew up. And while some say he’s on the decline and 89 has said we won’t pay $6 mill for a tendy, I’d certainly welcome him over a Levi & UPl/Comrie split this year. |
