I think you're a bit off here. You don't need to to waive players during the summer. It's odd to see it. It's usually a buyout or mutual termination. In this case, they were willing to give him away and give him the fresh start he asked for. No one was interested.

The difference between Okposo / girgensons vs another bottom tier player is very small. Not enough to make a major difference

If they are on the 3rd line, it means the Sabres have an even more formidable top 9, and then top 9 due to Peterka and Quinn being there.
