Clague is your spot defenseman. Ryan Johnson can also spot. You're getting rid of two of these guys.

Free agency will be filled with those guys year after year.

Filling your top 9 with elite talent is infinitely harder then figuring out which of the 400 depth players that will be available year in and year out to fill the bottom of the roster

Yet year after year top 9 players are added and depth fails to be addressed.

For over a year you all complained that we were a cap floor team, now we are complaining about spending money ?

Like seriously ?

- Swedish_Jesus

only in Buffalo does a rebuild take over a decade

if you give the new crew a pass over the crap with risto, eichel, skunk, ror, kane, etc

dahlin is still on his 5th year

devils can jump 49 points in 1 year to get 112 points

and you scream sunshine and lollipops while we are still a fringe playoff team if everything goes right or another top 10 pick with an injury or 2

the yotes are 3 years removed from the playoffs

Adams has overpaid:

Okposo
Girgs
Johnson
Jost

I'll leave Clifton off the list as he his potential could meet the price tag.

There is $5mm combined in this group of wasted money, that should've been used to properly support the core and fill voids in the roster. The partial good qualities each individual brings from that group has been tried and tested resulting in failure.

The excuse that all of these are 1 year contracts so its no big deal works if the upcoming season is only looked upon as a development year. This group of players is solely looked upon to bring veteran presence, their individual stats of strong defense provided insufficient support last season rendering that argument as a good enough reason to resign them worthless.

Adams now has a bloated, insufficient bottom half of the roster with the same holes as last season. The tradable chips have little to no value and at this point of the offseason he, as manager of the Buffalo Sabres, has to rely on free agency and trades to fill the holes with an organizational history of failure in those departments.

Wow, overpaid 1 year deals. Dang what a terrible Gm.

Not like that money will be off the books next summer or anything.

This is a pretty terrible take.

Duchene was only linked to the stars on July 1.

I mean stop crying over this already wow.

Adams also said during this post July 2nd free agency press conference he tried for a couple forwards and failed.

So many that was duchene. Who knows who it was

When is the 2nd window for buy outs, Servelli says the Leafs are waiting for that. Has something to do with Samsanov.
- Buff36

Buyouts Outside of the Regular Period
Clubs whom have 1 or more arbitration filings may be permitted to perform a buyout outside of the regular window. This gives teams another opportunity to become cap compliant following an arbitration case.

Clubs are permitted to perform a buyout outside the regular period during the 48 hour period beginning on the third day after the final of [CBA 13(c)ii]:
Settlement of the Club's final arbitration case, or
Receipt of the Club's last arbitration award

You're agreeing they are overpaid, why are they overpaid?

You're going to easily fill the depth next year with....?

Just one year, what is the expectation of this one year?

He overpaid lesser players and failed to sign quality...no big deal though

Erik Johnson said the Sabres are on the rise after accepting millions from them...confidence restored.

Edit: Meant to reply to 9's post**

They also downgraded from Compher to Johansen simply to avoid giving out too much term and $$$$ to a middle 6 forward.

Cap flexibility is important

What does that have to do with the Sabres overpaying Johnson. To me Colorado has a better shot at the playoffs at this point then the Sabres. If it was all about Winning and a chance at a Cup why didn't he take there offer.

One thing I haven't seen mentioned yet are bonuses. They have a lot: 4.5m.

Okposo's cup bonus might be a little silly, and they won't all hit (Quinn probably won't, but he'll cost them his full salary on IR), but some will. Even if they were willing to spend, they don't want to get too close to the cap. Don't want to roll a penalty into next season.
