I like the Clifton signing but he's not a top 4 dman. 28 years old. Most ice time he's averaged is 18mins

Good thing you know this to be true. I had no idea that defensemen come out of the womb with their minutes-per-night tattooed on their forehead. Jesus H, this is such a tired take.

So you have joker with power still?

That's odd, pretty sure clifton has moved joker down and johnson has moved bryson to Rochester.

- Boss34

Stop pretending he's a bona-fide top 4 dman. At face value he is just something different than jokiharu.

Johnson is a 6th dman

Great job

They need one more top quality defender to make the defense complete, IMO.

The forward group needs one more Tuch like player to make that group complete, IMO.

You said we've done nothing to push the depth chart. We have. Regardless if it is up to your standards or not.

Doesn't every team have some kind of question in net? I can't think of too many teams that are rock-solid in starter and backup. For example, look at Jersey. Everyone loved Vanacek, until the playoffs hit and he stunk up the joint. Schmid played very well in the regular season and playoffs in a limited sample size. This is NOT to say that they have the same kind of questions that we have, it is just to illustrate that every team has a bit of an unknown in that area.

Some questions are a lot different than a huge question mark.

The Sabres have zero idea what they are going to get this season

Are we pretending it is not a valid question about Clifton?

Nothing wrong with being optimistic, the biggest question mark is still in net for me.

Greenway could be a good Quinn replacement, or maybe they really shake up the lines a bit:

Skinner Tage Greenway
Quinn Cozens Tuch
JJ Krebs Mitts
Larry Line

- Stripes77

Yeah, you wonder a bit late last season when they played tage and greenway together. Could be foreshadowing

Just when we were told the Sabres have no holes, society opens a new one:

Meatballs mentioned in his interview in The Athletic about Casey being on the top line and Tage playing with Cozens.

His career stats say it to be true bud

Career average 16:59 on ice. I like the signing. Hes not a top 4 untill he proves otherwise

I will say this, I will be pleasantly surprised if E Johnson brings any sort of on ice value.

I think very little of him. I didn’t like the signing. We shall see I guess.

Wouldn't be surprised if they see him as a 2nd pair band aid this year. Slides down to 3rd pair next year and they try again for a top 4.

Nothing can be worse than Bryson/Fitz/etc.

Haven't watched much of him in a while to have an opinion. Hes good for locker room growth.. but that aint worth over 3milly

I was responding to a guy that knew he wasn't that, which is pretty damn impressive. How many people had Samuelsson playing with Dahlin on their bingo card? I don't look at every move in the same transactional way that others do. I also don't get the worry over ice time. Again, who expected Sammy or Power to come in and play as much as they did. Pairings either work or they don't. If they don't, try another pairing.

If healthy Tage is with Cozens, that is the top line, imo.

Clifton played top 4 the first half of the season until they acquired Orlov and another I cant remember at the moment.

Agreed on the above.

If he works out great on the 2nd pair with added minutes, excellent. If not, his AAV won't crush them on the 3rd pair.

They certainly do have options because they didn't break the bank for him. It wouldn't surprise me if he was just fine and they still went out and got a guy like Pesce.

He played the even strength minutes he will need to play here if he is Power's partner for 19 games last season.

Agree to disagree.

10 million over 3 years dictates 2nd paring minutes.
