I am friends with someone who worked for the Bruins for a long time, has his name on the Cup when they won. He loves the guy, said Buffalo is getting a good locker room guy and a physical d man, he's just not sure if he can play in the top 4.

His exact quote to me "Cliffy is a great hard nosed d, takes some risks every once and a while to join the play, works his bag off and hits like a Mack truck. Will be interesting to see him outside of the Boston system, not sure if he can be a top-4 guy"

Good post,

I have family from the boston area, he loved clifton on the Bruins. Thought the Sabres made a wise move......

Decent #4
Excellent #5.

Love the signing...

Looking at the Eastern Conference teams from last year, I think just about every team has questions (and of course, not all questions are created equal).

- Boston - Holy S, they lost a ton. Still missing top 2 centers.
- Toronto - Their questions are more about roster makeup. On paper they aren't better than they were at the end of last season.
- Tampa - a year older, lost some players. Window is slowly closing
- Florida - Other than Bob's magical 10+ games in the playoffs, they were a slight-above-average team. The bottom half of their roster wasn't good.
- Carolina - very solid all the way through. Do they have enough elite talent?
- Devils - Any questions would just be nitpicking.
- Rangers - Similar to the Leafs - lots of talent and lots of questions about makeup.
- Islanders - they should be the lowest of the low-haning fruit in front of us

I guess Anton Wahlberg looked really good today. Kev was dying to trade up for Kulich and Peterka, so, hopefully we can take his word for it on this kid too.

His uncle is rooting for Toronto though:

I know it doesn't mean anything and we have no idea how it is going to play out, Dammit, watching Benson skate today brought a smile to my face. The kid just looks special.

(and maybe he allows a lot of people to re-purpose their #9 jersey)

Wait until he plays with men.

When and where do you see him in the Sabres lineup?

I think they slow roll him , like quinn and peterka.

Back to juniors 2023/24
Maybe rochester 24/25 if eligible
Sabres roster 25/26.

Admittedly, I have no idea.

What's your thoughts? Is his height really gonna hinder him at an nhl level?

I don't think height is an issue with the skill set he has. I think you're right on the trajectory, does he pass any prospects already in the system yet? Who play similarly to his style of play....which is all of them

Benson has the highest upside of any forward we have drafted since Eichel.

Neck and neck with Cozens. Cozens playing Center gives him the edge for me, but Benson has top line upside as a winger if it all comes together.

Good question, it's easy to say "the ( 4) 1st rounders " ,now it's the (5) 1st rounders, no even on the roster.

Ka and company have that certain type , size doesn't seem to matter. They like player's, good shooters.

I think savoie gets 9 games / same with kulich.
They both make the team out of camp and rotate the lineup.

It gets them both acclimated to the nhl grind and is similar to having the prospects watch the Rochester run from up close.

Slow roll... in and out like quinn/ peterka early.

Let's be honest, the quinn injury makes KA keep olofsson, it's easy peasy IMO

I think Matt Savoie is the closest comp to him as far as playstyle is concerned, but he's a dog like Nadeau but so much more dynamic like Savoie.

My guess, he pushes for a roster spot in 24-5

He'll need to put on 10 lbs this year.

Could you rank the 5 first rounders currently.

2024/2025

Same with Kulich, Savoie, Rosen if they don’t make the big club this year.

Good problem to have.

He won't be eligible for Roch next season.

Have heard a few 'experts' say he's more NHL ready than Savoie right now. Sure sounds like he's competing for a job next summer.

4 rookies injected into the lineup, is the 24/25 season a planned development year as well?

Thank you

Zem g should be looking over jost's shoulder.

Any idea why he fell to #13. Nhl in general prefers size, but anything else?

Give him 9 games with Savoie, I believe they have to play 9 games before a determination is required before sending him back to juniors.

Have both of them play a total of 9 games but not the same 9 games. That gives you 18 games, with Quinn out that gets you through all of October and most of November. Then send both of them back to juniors...

No, of course not. You speak as if it is a bad thing. Kids will be battling other kids and then battling people on the roster for a spot.

Benson
Savoie
Kulich
Ostlund
Rosen.

Kulich has the higher floor than Savoie, but Savoie has the higher ceiling so I give Savoie the edge for this exercise
