Powers agents are licking there chips right now, gonna be interesting how this plays out.
- Buff36

Interesting for sure. The lack of power deal could be stalling our trades and/or signings

May I ask why ?

Dahlin was arguably the best d-man in hockey last year.

As impressive as Power’s rookie season was, I still think Dahlin will have the better point totals throughout their careers (and we all know AAV’s get inflated by point totals).

I think a 8 year deal in the $8-8.5M range is what we would be looking at (Makar being the comparable at 8x9)

- Swedish_Jesus

He was incredibly impressive and actually played #1 D minutes. I think he was 19th total in TOI per game.

He was a #1 overall pick also. He will probably seek out franchise D money sooner than later

It made sense for Thompson to sign when he did. Cozens too.

It makes 0 sense for him to sign now.

Even then, lofty expectations that their agent should expect to make more then Cale Makar’s first deal coming off the ELC.

I don’t think Power’s point totals will ever reflect the true impact he will have on the ice (benefits us)

I guess we’ll find out

- Swedish_Jesus

Guess we won't find that out until they find that partner that helps him reach his potential. If the Sabres would have helped Dahlin more you probably would have seen the Dahlin we saw last year a couple years earlier. IMO that is the one thing this organization needs is a better Defensive Development Coach. Losing Peca is gonna hurt, he had a big hand in the development of the forwards the last few years. With the young D coming up it will only make it easier on the transition.

Makar was 6x9m and it's a few years old.

If it's not right around 9m, he should just wait a year.

It would be incredible if each of them won a Norris Trophy while on the Sabres. Went back and looked like its been done twice. MacInnis and Pronger won it back to back for the Blues and two Canadien defencemen I never heard of did it in the 50's.
- Hatboro_Swords

That would be very cool, I am curious if there is a correlation between individual awards and team success. If so, which individual award, rewards the team the most?

You can't teach size, when Power infuses snarl into his game look-out, Would like to be able to compare him to Pronger, I don't know if Owen will ever enjoy on ice violence as much as Pronger though.

Nothing wrong with a fluffer. But I prefer the finishers

That isn't remotely Power's game and never will be, which is completely fine

I think he’s a Dougie Hamilton/Alex Pietrangelo mix.

If he develops a great shot like Dahlin is developing, he’s gonna win a Norris

Huh? I said it was fine that he will never be a physical defenseman.

I think Pietrangelo is the best comparison, and he probably has a higher ceiling than him

Goalie Michael Houser is also back with Rochester on an AHL contract. Important depth add at the position.

So a 8.5-9mm career player? That's the expectation for a 6'6" 1OA defensemen? That's not even better let alone equal to Dahlin. That's disappointing.

No reason to worry about contracts for both then if that's his ceiling.

Pre concussions/injury 1st OA pick Aaron Ekblad would be great imo

I think he’s going to be better than both of them in his prime. Those two are comparables for his style of play though

Also both of those guys are yearly top 10 D men in their prime so why is that so bad?
