If they want to go with pairings like the above, it would be an attempt to more evenly distribute the even strength ice time, while also meaning we'd likely be seeing a Dahlin - Power pairing for a few shifts every game.

which is idiotic. KA and Granato are not dumb, they saw how bad Joker was at #4 (with big minutes) and how he was better than okay with limited minutes playing against teams lower lines. Sammy is not playing on the 3rd line, about the dumbest thing I've ever seen

I doubt the do that specific lineup myself. Yet the concept is good in theory to more evenly distribute the 5v5 minutes as was the central point, tome anyway. They need one more upgrade on the right side though,IMO

A lineup that would work well:
Dahlin Pesce
Power Clifton
Sammy Johnson

And they could also revert back to the following for portions of the game
Sammy Dahlin
Power Pesce
Johnson Clifton

As well as pair Power Dahlin whe offense is needed.

I see Granato moving his pairings around, rather than always running out the same six in the same spots. Could also see them carry 7 D and rotate in Stillman for some shifts too.

Completely agree about getting a real, experienced top 4.

If you give Dahlin and Power 5 shifts together at even strength during the course of a game, that likely makes up the 2 minute gap in ice time.

During a blowout, no need.

When behind by one in the 3rd period, give them more shifts together.

I’m sure he’s gonna be ok wherever he is and not a disaster but playing 17 min a night for one of the best year over year coached and structured defenses probably does wonders for his underlying numbers

The last thing you do when you have a Dahlin and Power is try to find ways to take minutes away from. This is the most flawed strategy I've seen in a long time and literally has been employed but nobody in the history of the NHL. Dahlin and Power will get their 24 minutes and will be fine with it. Who is paired with them for those 24 minutes will be a mix and match. Sammy will get the majority with Dahlin while Power's partner will vary
