Whenever I feel too good I know that I can just check in here to be reassured that the sky is falling. - Slump Buster
I just don't get it, I heard this song and dance last year all the excuses on this board, one more year. And the funny part it's even harder to do anything this year because of Cap Restraints around the league. I am Happy with the growth of the team, doesn't mean that Adams couldn't have done things better especially with the plethora of assets and Cap space he did have. |

7 mil for 4th line
8 mil for 5-8th d men - homiedclown
And if your numbers above are correct, that’s 15 million for 7 players, or 2.14m per player. Looking at it another way, $15m is 18% of the cap. 7 players represent 30.4% of cap contracts. Seems like good spending to me. What’s the issue, please explain |

why settle for a team that may or may not make the playoffs in year 4 of your gm tenure with dahlin, power, tage, cozens, tuch, and skinner
the settling for this is what pisses off half the sabre fans on here and assuming everything will fall into place
we are a levi groin injury, or a dahlin acl or a tage bum shoulder away from a top 10 pick in 11 months, and you can't say that about the good teams
what's wrong with wanting to be one of those good teams - homiedclown
You sure about that ?
Boston as of today is running Zacha, Coyle, Frederic down the middle. If Pasta gets hurt, they are toast. Even with a healthy Pasta, they may be toast.
Bertuzzi and Domi replacing Bunting and Kerfoot is essentially a wash (every one will get hot and horny over their last names but it’s the truth). They also never replaced ROR and their d-corps is arguably worse than it was last year. Any injury to their top guys could sink them.
Tampa is another year older, they have also lost Palat, Killorn, Colton, McDonagh in the last two off seasons. Any injury to one of their star players will hurt them big time. Especially since the only reason they made the playoffs by the end of the year is because Buffalo and Florida ran out of runway (they both would have passed Tampa if they had another two weeks)
Ottawa and Detroit are in a battle to see who can be more mediocre than the other.
Montreal had back to back top 5 picks and may have wasted both of them. Suzuki is an overpaid 2C acting as a 1C (with no solution coming through the pipeline).
The Sabres are running back the same team sans Quinn that finished 3rd in goal scoring last year and have arguably gotten better defensively and should have better goaltending.
Take a step off the ledge |

Yep a handful of guys must feel the need to come here to redirect their anger from life/whatever. Would have loved to see their post during the JB or earlier era.
We’ll see if KA is done, I doubt he is. Betting he has at least two moves left; 1 or 2 players coming in and 2-4 players going out. Also there’s the simple moves of sending Bryson to Rochester and Comrie to Rochester (If UPL isn’t traded) - turbo044
Yes, just like a few come hear to preach the same crap and tickle Adams tonsils. |

cup winning teams have more inexpensive contracts to round out the roster and use that extra 5-7 mil for difference makers
maybe adams knows more then the history of cup winning teams in a cap era

Right, hence the reason they have kept all of their draft picks and have a loaded pipeline coming through the ranks to fill roles in the middle 6 over the course of the next several years.

yeah
we overachieved last year
an 80 points season would not shock me this year
guys were blaming 6k for the sabres missing the playoffs
it was just as much if not more
the pk
the 14 games we scored 0 or 1 goal
the lack of replacements when samuelsson
team needs to still learn how to win and not getting a decent body to replace quinn is also going to hurt this team out the gate

Actually No it isn't , especially that Percentage for the bottom part of your roster and you have 5 guys on ELC'S and 2 on 1st contracts. |

The offseason isn’t over yet.
But pretending that this team isn’t right there in the thick of it in the Atlantic isn’t necessarily right either |

I’m expecting them to make the playoffs this year.
Quinn injury is unfortunate, but this is a playoff roster on paper to me as long as they find a suitable goalie to pair with Levi (which I expect them to by the end of the offseason).
I also expect them to be buyers at the deadline and fill in the perceived gaps |
|
|
|
Going off the line combos from the end of last year:
Skinner-Mitts-Tuch
Greenway-Cozens-Tage
Peterka-Krebs/Jost-______
Girgs-Krebs/Jost-Okposo
Rousek
Dahlin-Samuelsson
Power-Clifton
Stillman-Johnson
Joker, Lybushkin, Bryson
______
Levi
Kulich, Savoie, Rosen, Rousek are fighting for one forward spot.
We have depth on defence for eventual injury.
Even if they take a small step back in the goal scoring department, they should improve defensively.
There is a lot to like right now on paper, with still an agreement that there is work to do

I wouldn’t be shocked one way or the other.
I can see both scenarios.
One - had 8 guys have career years. Could step back. Sophomore slumps, and not brining in additional options could hurt.
Two - had 8 guys have career years, could maintain that level and get help from youngers who take giant step.

He still could sign a Tatar or Suter.
If he doesn’t, it’s not due to cap space - Swedish_Jesus
Sure, but he extended everyone and hasn't been able to move VO. May have tied his own hands.

just goes to show how poopty team defense/goaltending was.
Seattle's top 3 scorers had 70, 64, 63 points
Florida's top 3 scorers had 109, 78, 73 points
Sabres proved that even an explosive offense can't always save you.
We don't need career years if the former improves. I suspect that's a primary mission this year. |

Mountaineer Nation:
Today, I have submitted a letter to President Gordon Gee and Vice President and Director of Athletics Wren Baker informing them of my resignation and intention to retire as head men’s basketball coach at West Virginia University effective immediately.
My recent actions do not represent the values of the University or the leadership expected in this role. While I have always tried to represent our University with honor, I have let all of you – and myself – down. I am solely responsible for my conduct and sincerely apologize to the University community – particularly to the student-athletes, coaches and staff in our program. I must do better, and I plan to spend the next few months focused on my health and my family so that I can be the person they deserve.
It has been the honor of my professional career to lead the men’s basketball program at my alma mater and I take great pride in our accomplishments. But I am most proud of the tremendous young men who chose to spend their formative years with us, and who have gone on to do great things with their lives.
I was born in Morgantown, graduated from West Virginia University and had the pleasure of coaching here for seventeen seasons as an assistant or head coach. It will always be my home, and I will always be a Mountaineer.
Thank you to everyone who has supported our program over the years. It has meant more to me and my family than you could ever know.
Sincerely,
Bob Huggins
july 8th 2023
Weeks after Bob Huggins announced his resignation following a DUI arrest, an attorney for the former West Virginia men's basketball coach claims he never formally resigned last month and said Huggins will sue the university if he's not reinstated.
