The bigger concern with me on UPL is the injuries. Those are hard to come back from and have ruined many careers.

Still think UPL could be a good 1B goalie, he has spurts last year, believe he won rookie goalie of the month last year. Sabres left there goalie's out to dry to much last year. It you have a supposed weak spot you try and make things around that stronger. Better D system would help.

Well that's why IMO letting Peca walk was a mistake. With all the young guys coming up he has helped a lot of them develop immensely. He could have helped continue there growth Defensively.

It isn't ideal by any stretch.
On the other hand, moving on from a wide-open , offensively friendly system that was implemented for the express purpose of building confidence in the youngins, to a more defensively aware System based on 5 man units playing a 200 ft game should yield tangible results in cutting down shots and more importantly HDCA's. It is a huge improvement overall that should not be undervalued.

Granato himself has talked about how he specifically pushed the offensively focused system last yea, and now the recognition that he needs to throttle it back a bit.
