They’re going to try to play him in the top 4 like they did Boosh.

Not the high end D we wanted. Adams and company are going bargain bin shopping hoping he can play bigger minutes.

- Stripes77

And part of me is ok with that if you stabilize the net.

Power or Dahlin could probably elevate Clifton and that’s an ok swing to make.

You add Johnson for the vet leadership and Stillmen as the 7.

Which leaves one spot for, booshcan, Bryson, joker.

What’s the average percentage of cap committed to the top 4 in the NHL?

If Dahlin gets $10, samuelsson is at $4 and power is probably going to be $7-8 on a bridge before he gets to $9-10.

That 4th d man might just have to be a Clifton until the young Johnson is ready.

Now make a trade to fix the net and unload some scrap….

So Hear Me Out, kinda crazy
We haven't heard much on Pesce, and Carolina seems to have some things cooking with Philadelphia and SJ. Could Buffalo be a part of that trade. Maybe SJ doesn't exactly want Pesce, maybe they want Morrow. Could say a 3 team trade where:
Karlsson ends up in Carolina
Pesce ends up in Buffalo
Morrow Joker and other pieces end up in SJ
So
Pesce to Buffalo
Joker 2024 1st to Carolina
Karlsson to Carolina
Morrow Joker Buffalo's 2024 1st to SJ

If Girgensons did literally anything else to move the needle aside from his defensive prowess, fine, but he doesn't. He can't skate for poop, has cinderblocks for hands, has zero nose for the net, doesn't hit, doesn't agitate, doesn't fight. He just occupies space, that's it.

Oh, and he's overpaid by like 100%

Terrible post from someone who doesnt watch or go to the games.

I think people will be annoyed with Johnson about 1/4 a way through the season.

He’s not very good. And is not a top 4 D if that is the plan

Clifton is a massive wild card. betting on a guy who’s never done it to do it consistently.

Old Johnson is on the 3rd pair.
Clifton with power or Dahlin
Samuelsson with Dahlin or power.

I was thinking the young Johnson. Ryan as a top 4 guy in some time. Year or two.

Clifton moves down to 3rd pair on his 3rd year and Ryan Johnson takes over 2nd pair.

Could do a lot worse.

Hanifin, Tanev, Pesce, Karlsson still haven’t been moved yet either.

I am glad you mentioned this. I keep forgetting that D'Angelo trade back to Carolina is still on hold for another week or so. I think Pesce is definitely still in play here.

And you still have Bryson and Joker… would Bryson be the 7th. Send Joker in a trade

They kept an open spot in Roch for a D. I think it has Bryson's name on it.

Gotcha.

Sabres should go get Jack Johnson just to make this confusing.

Well you’re at it go get Rasmus Sandin

They're over the roster size limit, they have 9 current NHL d men on the roster and 3 goalies.

Something has to give

Bryson and Comrie on waivers solves that.

I can’t imagine they are done though.

There are still so many teams up against the Cap and so many franchises stuck in limbo with players on one/two year deals.

They're 100% making some sort of trade. I'm just fully prepared for it to be a simple Lyubushkin for future considerations and Gerbe to tell us how something big fell through last minute

What does Buffalo have to offer to make the deal work?

I could see that Karlsson deal falling through then the Canes send Pesce to Ottawa for the Cat and sign Kane to bolster their offense.

Better players were given away already then what Buffalo has on the trading block, youth will have to be added to the package to make a deal interesting. 89 stated that Pegula will not hold any celery anymore so Adams will have to get very creative.

Don't underestimate what Adams and co can do with future considerations...

I think itll be some kinda of 3 team disjointed trade salary going one way and assets for a goalie the other.
