Sure, they’re not Led Zeppelin but they’re alright.

Is it safe to say Foo Fighters > or = to Nirvana after all those years?

- Barnaby36

Thinking the Foo Fighters are better or equal to Nirvana is somehow a worse take than just thinking Nirvana sucks.

Nirvana was more iconic. They transitioned grunge into the 90's version. Even if you didn't like them it's hard to deny their impact on 90's music.
- burgh4life87

They mercifully put a dagger in the back of 80's music. That alone makes them one of the best rock bands in history.

The 80s and the 90s are polar opposites in the sense that all the popular music in the 80s was absolute trash but hipstery stuff was elite where as all the popular music in the 90s was awesome but all the hipstery stuff just isn’t very good.

In the 80s you have The Pixies, Joy Devision, New Order, Blondie, Talking Heads, Depeche Mode, Kate Bush. All (frank)ing excellent. New wave is one of the best genres of modern music.

You left out Descendents. They were the reason bands like Blink and Greenday even became something.
I love how so many helped to evolve into the next gen.

If you’re dumping Petry you wouldn’t have to buyout Granlund. Don’t think the 2 moves would have any relation.
- Feds91Stammer

Petry is likely the biggest hurdle though. Why would he put San Jose on his list of acceptable teams. He Mya have to be traded as part of some other deal down the road. But a Granlund buyout could get the EK deal done.

I listened to them when I was a kid. Found an old CD and listened to it about a year ago... complete garbage. If Cobain didn't OD, Nirvana would have been chirped now more than Nickelback.

I don't know man, San Jose is not a bad place to live. Sure the team sucks but he can only decline 15 teams. I'd expect WPG, CAL, EDM, VAN, CHI, BUF are definitely on his list, I wont try to predict it all but San Jose would be pretty decent and I don't think his name would be tied to them in the press if he had not already given his approval. He's been kind of poop on a bit in Pittsburgh even though he had a pretty good season so I'm sure he doesn't have any great connection to the city that would make him want to stay.

Nirvana was my favorite band when I was like 12-13 yo and yes, they are not instrumentally sound or great at anything.
I see some clowns here don’t like the 80s music but we had quite a few good bands.

There is good music from every generation. I am sure I will get flamed for this, but I always thought Offspring was head and shoulders better than Nirvana. Come out and play I always associated with hockey growing up, Smash was the first CD I ever bought and it is still one of my favorites. Come out and play, Gotta Get Away, Bad Habit, Self Esteem... great stuff. Not sure about any of their newer stuff but I still love all of these songs.

Fair points. But remember he's from Michigan. So some of the less desirable locations could be in play if it's closer to home.

It's a shame he couldn't be better for us. He was a real solid player for a long time. I'm still bummed we gave up Matheson for him. Speaking of entertainment value, I loved watching Matheson. Now Zucker is gone. Another favorite player.

Man thinking how we had Matheson, Marino, McCann, Taney, and the big 3 a few years younger.... we should of done more damage in the postseason than we did.

Don’t forget after Karlsson, San Jose has not much else on defense. San Jose can give Petry all of the playing time Karlsson got, try to boost his numbers through the PP, and then trade him at the deadline for a 2nd-3rd round pick with salary retained. Petry at $3.5-4 mil isn’t a bad deal.

San Jose’s roster looks to be another bottom 5 team. I’m sure Couture won’t be there for too much longer

I think Petry was about as expected. He was pretty solid, almost reminds me of the criticism Paul Martin always got because of unreasonable expectations.

I really liked McCann, Tanev & Matheson. McCann is the one they really screwed the pooch with. I loved Tanev also but he's not putting up 40 goals. Ironic thing with Matheson is he would probably be the perfect partner for Petry.

Nirvana is possibly the mst overrated band ever. So many better grunge band options. I still listen to a lot of 90s and you forget how good it was.

Lot of it was pretty dark too.

Foo fighters. Have like 5 or 6 great songs and a bunch of bla.

I dont mind the Foo Fighters...like their earlier stuff, like the first 2 or 3 albums, better. I think the first album is the only one I can listen to start to finish and enjoy all the songs....been a really f'n long time since I listened to it....might later today.

Nirvana still sounds fresh to me, even today. I hardly ever listen to them at all but when I do, its still fresh sounding. Its just pure unbridled raw emotions with a 3 piece conduit to get it out. Grohl was the only great musician of the three but they were much bigger than the sum of their parts (which is what I'm also hoping for the Penguins this coming season). Also, the production of their albums were just so....big...sounding. Just a raw massive sound. Love the tone and sound of Grohl's drums on those albums.
