I'm not too hot on giving up two 1sts with this older team....even with Karlsson there's a very good chance they miss the playoffs again. I dont know, part of me just wants the entertainment value of EK on the Pens at whatever cost for right now...the other part of me knows I was a Penguins fan long before this core and will be long after...stuff like this hurts the after...and the after isnt all that far away haha - MattStrat
That's how I feel. I could give up this years or Pickering. And I guess we won't keep both POJ and Smith though I'd have no problem playing them together. But don't want to give up another because this team still isn't going far and by 2025 that could be a high pick. Even lottery protected is no good because we know we're just getting worse.
But I'll do one because it will be more entertaining, more likely to make playoffs, and help Sid and Geno climb the scoring lists. |

The 1st would be the compensation for taking Carter's corpse, and I don't think I'd take what will essentially be a late 1st for Konecny. - jmatchett383
1 year and 3M I don't think is worth a first |

Nylander reminds me a bit of Kunitz. Pens should be going after him. - Feds91Stammer
We would definitely need a third team for a Nylander trade, neither team has cap haha. |

It has to be hard for GM's to get to the point where they are retaining cap space for FOUR years. I think Dubas is being shrewd because he could have easily panicked already and got the deal done by not getting as much retained or by forking over a ton of assets.
The real challenge for San Jose might be mentally, as literally everything with Karlssons name attached to it (other than his Norris) has been a GM nightmare. They got killed on the assets they gave up for him. They went way overboard on the contract. And now do you want to be the GM who eats $4M in salary retention for 4 years on the reigning Norris winner without getting an absolutely absurd haul? If I was Grier I'd sit on it for a year before I took a light return on that deal. - MacPatty
They sit a year there's a good chance he won't have as good a year and quite possibly be hurt again. This is a great time to move EK, not to mention knowing he doesn't want to be there. Should at least get something beyond cap dump, but they will never get a haul. |

I think Tarasenko/Debrincat are holding a few things up.
Debrincat getting traded could mean Tarasenko to Ottawa.
Tarasenko to Ottawa could mean EK and Tatar to Carolina. - Feds91Stammer
I'm surprised Carolina isn't in on Nylander. They truly do not need defensemen haha. |

I think a 1st for a 1 year contract at $3M is a bit excessive. Josh Bailey was acquired by Chicago plus a 2026 2nd when Bailey's cap hit is $5M.

They gotta get Aho and Necas situated before they add more big money forwards. |

I think EK would be cool and all but the bottom 6 still sucks and needs a 3c. Not sure how you solve that with another big cap hit.
Still think they need to look younger w more scoring support. |

Well apparently the guys we signed won't get caved in their own end, now add EK and you have one of Tanger or EK out there for, 50-55 of the 60mins....sounds like a good way to make the bottom 6 better. |

I think we see a line of Nieto Eller Acciari and that's who Sully throws to the wolves. I'd love to see a DOC Suter Nylander/Puustinen line. We need another true center though. Acciari is more of a wing at this point. |

Karlsson asked for a trade, has a NMC, and just came off a Norris win. If you wait to trade him now, you risk injury or a âdown yearâ from Karlsson. I donât think his value will be any higher than what it is now. Even If he stays healthy and has another 100pt season, youâre just right back in this same spot, but EK is another year older.
Grier can definitely sit on it for a couple months, but Iâm sure all teams want EK in his new home by training camp.
I think SJ will eat $2 mil. Then the pens sending a 2nd or 3rd rounder to another team to eat another 1-2 mil. Youâd think the Ducks would be doing everything they could to get to the cap floor and stockpiling draft picks. Their roster looks worse than the sharks
