The same logic could be applied to the, Fedotov isn’t coming so neither is Michkov, narrative also.
- Sublime55

That’s what I was applying it to… fedotov has nothing to do with Michkov

Cue the Michkov isn’t coming over. Gonna be a long 3 years
- ClaudeFather

So you think the Ukrainian war will still be happening in 3 years?

Right, I wasn’t necessarily directing that at you.

The thing that is most worrisome about the Michkov situation is that it is so easy to imagine that the Flyers might not have done their due diligence in regards to his contract situation, the situation in Russia in general, and/or into Michkov himself. You can so easily imagine them just seeing a talented kid who seems enthusiastic to join the team and deciding that they want THAT without fully researching things. It so easy to imagine three years from now Michkov not coming to the NHL and information leaking out that the entire Flyers scouting department advised against the pick because everyone know he’d never play in the NHL. Clarkie will probably outright say as much when he’s interviewed after Briere is fired. If any other team picked him I wouldn’t feel this way way.

Even if Michkov ends up never coming over, which is extremely doubtful, you still make that pick at the chance having him.
- hereticpride

Agreed…his potentially game-changing talent is worth the risk.

They should have taken Leonard!! This is going to be such a fiasco with the Russians. I heard Leonard was very impressive in the recent Caps prospect camp. I know most folks didn't want him cause he is the typical Flyer, but I beg to differ. Thanks!
- Phillywhiteout

Michkov will be here. Fedetov, for all we know, may have been forced to sign in Russia. In fact this might be a good thing for Michkov. Not only was the memorandum of understanding suspended but if the KHL is going to conduct itself in what appears to be bad faith, there may be more than a mere loophole to have Michkov come to the NHL now. A number of legalities might very well be in the Flyers favor now. An active NHL contract and a breach by the KHL? If the KHL says “No breach due to the suspended MOU”, then nothing “legally” prevents the Flyers from signing him. It also begs the question as to actual enforceability of said MOU between the 2 leagues.

Don Waddell and many other NHL GM's were upset when Fletcher was fired. Hoping another team hires him.

@phillywhiteout, agree 100%. Imagine that, a team’s top prospect that actually shows up to prospect camp! I have no faith Michkov ever plays for the Flyers, but hey, they got an A for a draft grade.

Actually. the Flyers are well situated in Russia. Ken Hoodikoff is Canadian but lives and scouts year-round in Russia. They are well aware of the talent over there but also the particulars of dealing with each organization.

That said, it's no picnic dealing with Roman Rotenberg (or the Rotenberg oligarch family in general) or negotiating with/against the Volga Group (Gennady Timchenko). and their Gazprom sponsors. SKA is a very wealthy team.

You keep saying that. You have a right to your opinion. But it’s your theory or some unknown logic. Nothing empirical.

I was making up the same types of theories the other day. It’s not that I don’t want things to workout, it’s the exact opposite actually, it’s just that this seems too good to be true. Especially from a development standpoint.

So there’s a risk with this kid for sure but who has had more potential that the flyers drafted in the past? I think his ceiling shows higher than jvr or Patrick. Probably potential ceiling wise we’re looking at forsberg days

Are there any high profile, high draft pick players that were prevented from coming to the NHL in the last 20 years?

I don’t follow the Fedotov situation. Does he want to remain in Russia or is he being pressured ? It’s sketchy.

Personally I think he must’ve (frank)ed someone’s wife he shouldn’t have or something. Way too much drama involved with him

What do you make of that story where he thinks he was poisoned while in the military?
