The offseason is the perfect time to discuss that kind of general question and I’ll admit that when I saw that question on Twitter Saturday, it took me some time to consider who would make up my Mount Rushmore of favorite Montreal Canadiens. - Karine Hains
Larry Robinson
Bob Gainey
Mats Naslund
Saku Koivu
(Although, Brendan Gallagher could have been one, as well)

How anyone still thinks Kovalev was a good thing after the poop he pulled in that playoff game against Boston is beyond me. Was never a fan, and that is a prime example why, and it was not the first time he pulled that kind of poop in his career, either.

See Kovalev could be entertaining but only when he felt like it kinda, never was a big fan of his. But you can’t argue taste |

I was there for the end of it all.
The first cup I really really remember in detail was the 79 finals against the Rangers. I can recall being allowed to stay up late to watch hockey games before then, but the details are fuzzy... not sure if it was because I was too young to take notice of the details or because I am now old and cannot remember things. |

I kind of misread the topic, so if its more about favs players, I could see why some fans would say Kovalev, because of moments and his skillsets. But yeah, I was not a big fan myself of 1 game out of 4 from him.
Roy is right up there for me. Gave us the Habs last 2 cups and I kept following him once he left the Habs.
Markov is near the top with Roy for me. He made others betters.
I would have to think about the last 2, a few guys could make it there. |

Markov was such a great and steady player too.
I was really pissed at the way his time with the Habs ended.

If you want fidelity get a dog…ugh could have hit MB when he said that… losing bith markov and Radulov in the same summer really hurt. I wish Markov could have reached 1000 games |

not bad, although I'd swap Hemsky and Kassian with Leblanc and Sekac. |

gee, thanks Karine for stealing my 3 favorite players with Roy, Gallagher and Subban loll
to be honest for now I don't really have any other names that come to mind that would be worthy of being described as a "favorite" of mine. I didn't get to see Lafleur, Robinson, Richard, etc. play so it isn't that obvious for me. anyway I think Caufield could very soon be added to that list if things continue to go well for him...

I hear your point of view, many habs fans feel that way. But to me, Kovalev was my water in the desert. I hated that the Habs never could score. They never seemed to get anyone with actual higher tier ability. It was my bane for years. Sure, a couple guys did well here and there through the ages, but he was the only capable of dazzling anyone for the longest time. He had a lot of games where he was invisible, but man did I ever love watching for when he turned it on.
My favorite moments were him stick handling behind the net while retrieving a downed glove against Boston with D on him, his 84 point season(only thing that ever approached offense in all my time) and of course when he wore the "C" for short period. Only player beside Price that I have ever loved. |

I hope they'll have an audio recording of his legendary skating sounds to go along with his picture or statue when he gets inducted in the HOF.

yeah, that really sucked, the whole situation was definitely poorly managed. I was surprised though that he didn't sign with another NHL team on a 1-year deal or something, he was getting older but if I recall correctly he could still be pretty efficient in a reduced role. |
