Nylander to Isles could include Pageau and Wahlstrom (e3)
This from a source close to the situation…The isles have liked Nylander for some time now and the Leafs would like to add Pageau to kill Penalties and be more of a shutdown force.. |

So the Leafs are going to trade Nylander and take back Pageau at $5M x 3 more years. To help with the PK? No they aren't.
Option 1 is to keep Nylander and make a Cup run. If he walks, you free up cap space to replace.
Option 2 is to trade Nylander to address an actual team need. Like Nylander for Pesce or Hanifin. But the centrepiece to a deal is not 30-year old Pageau making $5M x 3. You can sign guys for $1M to help with the PK. Sigh. |

Dude, I get it, but give it a rest. Eklund could say "Water is wet," and you'd come in here with some snot-nosed comment about why he's wrong. |

IF anything
Those 2 players would be going to another team that will help with salary.
Pageau has no value and Whalstrom is a big meh. |

so the team that as won one playoff round in the last 20 years would keep the same line up to try again ?, seems like a great idea
From the outside, its seems like a no brainer thatthey need to trade one of the 4 big forward to get a D |

It's not the same lineup.
They added Bertuzzi, Domi, Reaves, Klingberg.
Lost O'Reilly, Bunting, Kerfoot, Holl.
I hate the Leafs as much as the next guy. But overall they have improved. And there is a fine line between winning and losing. The current roster is a legit contender. So you might just take a run with Nylander at $6.9M and worry about re-signing him next summer. Because if the alternative is trading Nylander for JP Pageau and Wahlstrom then you are weakening your roster in a significant way. |

I think the vast majority of fans believe core changes are required in Leafland. Trading Tavares is first on the list but his contract is virtually immovable. Next is Nylander but a return of an undersized and overpaid PG Pageau to play 3/4th centre and a wing prospect does not fit any need
No trade is better than a bad trade |

I actually like those moves for them, but I still think a bigger shake down is required |

If trading nylander is only because of cap issues why would they take more on. I would imagine they would want high draft picks and top prospects instead. |

Most teams can't fit 7 million cap hit this coming season without some cap going the other way |

Yeah I would think if the Flames want to run with Lindholm & Backlund into the year & try for playoffs & convince Lindholm to sign & Leafs are pretty solid up front with their additions, a Hanafin for Nylander straight across, no extension drama, both are pending UFA next year & Leafs gain 2.0 mill in cap space & have a serious weapon in their top 4 D. Im sure both GMs are looking for better deals as it just seems like changing dirty underwear but makes sense. Lindholm Nylander & Huberdeau sounds like a pretty legit top line for the Flames even if its for just 1 year. If they click maybe Lindholm & Nylander may want to hang around for an encore. |

Very intelligent response. Probably more intelligent than the original post deserved
The difference between winning and losing is so razor thin. The Leafs were outplayed by TB and still won. Outplayed FLA but lost. A couple of things fall differently and they could easily have been in the cup finals. Conversely, they get a couple unlucky breaks and they lose first round
Point is, you don’t blow up a roster this talented just because the general public is crying for it. And you certainly don’t trade a player of Nylander’s caliber for pylons like Pageau and Wahlstrom. I would much rather lose him for nothing after this season. In fact, I would bet that’s what happens |

I’m an islanders fan and would love them to add nylander but if the leafs could get lindholm and somehow keep him for the future that would be a great move for them! |

I’d try and throw in Murray, then sign Terasanko. Bam.
