Nah, not really.
2023 was a special year.
2024, is meh - Swedish_Jesus
If I had to go out on a very long limb I’d say it’ll rival 2015 and its success rate.
You know that super deep/special class.
Or the 2016 that was said to be strong as well.

You had a Selke winning coach on staff that probably could have helped and you didn’t want to stick one of the current bench presiding numskulls in the press box for him… must not have been an effective, efficient, economic move… - Gr8daygo

If the Sabres miss the playoffs next year, you’ll have the same people telling us how it was good that they missed because now they have a chance to get a really good prospect.
Also the team wasn’t ready anyways and it’s all part of Adams plan - ImThatGuy
if they miss this year it is strictly on GMKA for not addressing Goaltending and Defense.
IF they miss I would expect GMKA to either be fired or put on the HOT seat.

Out of curiosity, if both goalies get above a .900sv% this year and we still miss, does that change your view of what repercussions should be to Adams? |

I like that comparison...because if it is, we were the ones to get Barzal in the teens this time. |

Sometimes the grass ain’t greener on the other side though.
As an organization this is playoff or bust this year, however, Adams has his finger prints all over a core of talented players that can have this organization winning a cup this decade.
Between his shrewd contract extensions and the fact we are sitting her with top 3 prospect pipeline at worst.
He’s done some good work. |

What are the differences between Botts and Adams? They are eerily similar, Adams just doesn't have narcolepsy.

Some good, is also better than really bad.
Dubas wasn’t quite good enough, but Trevling has made the Leafs worse since he took over (at least on paper).

Botts bringing in Krueger sealed his fate, prior to that he was building almost identical to how Adams is building. Adams relying on a 20 year old goalie could be his downfall as well.
Dubas was/is a poor negotiator - that ruined him. I think what Trevling is doing in Toronto is exactly what they need, time will tell on that.

Botts hired Granato, just put him in the wrong position:
https://www.secondcityhoc...-coaching-staff-nhl-2019/
Need to be honest, Adams fell into a situation where the head coach - promoted by Adams*, a 1C, and a top D, were already in the organization. Not including Jack Eichel, Sam Reinhart and Risto.
Adams cleaned out the old core and continued the approach Botts was using of building through the draft. The prospect pool looks promising but this is still not fully his team. |

I mean the Bolts teams that Briesbois inherited were mostly there before he got there but I doubt anyone holds that against him. |

every draft is pretty fine, some just have better cream at the top. I hate this attitude of 'well next year will be great so we shouldnt trade our pick or we should tank' or whatever.
try to (frank)ing win. there's no reason the sabres need that first regardless of the strength of the draft. we are so obviously past this part. |

Similar to Adams, Botts trades were bipolar.
Botts did trade for Skinner and Tage, Adams traded for Tuch, and Levi.
The rest of the trades for both are questionable at best. Free Agency is tough to measure due to the bad brand name caused by location and ownership so I ignore that.

what's your angle here? a lot of different discussions could stem from your post.
I assume it's "what's the difference"
I think Kevyn's team manages the entire organization better than Botts ever did.
We've got to see how most of Botts' picks have come to fruition, we haven't had that chance with Adams yet. At least in regards to his later round picks from his previous drafts |

There isn't a single person in the hockey world that doesn't credit Yzerman for Tampa's early success, Briesbois has done a great job at continuing that.

Which is the best way of building a professional sports team, except in hockey you need to wait a few years to see it bear fruit.

Pick one, my angle is Adams and Botts are very similar. Adams promoted Granato out of desperation - that worked out well, Granato put Tage at center out of desperation, that worked out well.
Adams traded away the best player (even in the Risto deal lol) in each deal, and has yet to successfully build a balanced competitive team. Majority of the core is Botts, were going into year 4 of Adams, his NHL contributions are:
Quinn - band-aid
Peterka - middle 6 player
Tuch - result of trading an elite 1C
Greenway - A 2nd round pick
LA-Bush-Can
Stillman
E Johnson
Clifton - will consistently play
Levi
Comrie
Going into Adams 4th season as GM, only 5 players of his will be in the starting lineup. |

i know this isn't my question, but I think he did fine. His pro teams were talented losers, and that's on him.
Botts had elite players and nhl vets as a majority of his team and fumbled big time.
Adams started with a mostly very young core and is already better than any of bott's teams.
His management was awful and the only thing he was decent at was drafting. |

I agree, my point is the Sabres have been successfully drafting since 2017, how many years of drafting until it works?

Well to be honest 3/4 of this board was Happy with both hiring's. Housley was the New Blood and Stank was a popular hire here to. The Snake salesman played alot of people. |
