Slow news month - PeteM
Our blogger cannot even keep us on the main page...I guess as an Isles fan one must accept being irrelevant.

Garth Snow an his pompous attitude can go F himself. He shall for ever be know as "The Long Term Re-Build" with an empty pipeline to show for it. Yes, I know Lou has not been that much better in the pipeline development either, I know.
Maybe our blogger can get us back on the main page again so we do not have to search for this crap.
Have a super duper day.

So Snow is blaming Malkin for the Tavares debacle. That's kind of pathetic really. I can't wait to see other NHL teams lining up to hire Snow as GM. |

I'm hoping he is hired by some team in the east. |

I don't know if anyone posted these articles, but just in case.... - JohnScammo
I know Bolduc is a lefty, but I just do not get locking up Mayfield for 7 years. Matt Dumba signed for 1 year.

Garth threw Malkin right under the bus. Typical Garth move.

I think he'd look good in the Rangers' executive suite. |

Hard to predict these things. We all questioned locking up Mayfield and Pelech on fairly lengthy contracts many years ago, and both contracts turned out to be bargains. Time will tell...

Yup. Most owners know less about hockey than us HB GMs..........and that's a low bar. They have to rely on their GMs for advice. Snow needed to steer Malkin in the right direction, not let him make a bad decision and then blame him for it. |

I'm just not a fan of most of these long-term contracts. No issue with locking up an elite talent for 7 or 8 years. I just think it's gotten out of hand with average type players getting long deals. |

I don't like any of those long contracts. Every 7 or 8 year contract over pays the player at the end. The GMs know it, but that's what it takes to sign the players. I would like to see them change it to 5 years max. The NHLPA would never go for it. |

I have no issue if it's a player like Barzal with his talent and his age. You cannot go by Barzal's numbers because the Islanders play a defensive style. I have an issue with giving 7-year contracts to the 29-year-old grinders. Too many 7-year contracts for players that do not generate offense. |

Never going to happen for the reasons you stated. In fairness the players need some protection. They have a short window to make money and have to capitalize on it. The real issue is the cap and little to no movement with it over the years. I understand the whole parity thing and factoring in Covid also but it’s impossible to ice a real competitive team unless you tear it down every five or six years to hope to be competitive over that same kind of timeline. That’s not good for the teams or the league. It seems to only benefit the players. There has to be a happy medium.
I agree with what ses said in the above post for the most part. Too many contracts/money dedicated to the same type of player. We need more of a balance of grinders and talent to be competitive. Lamoriello has been unable to do that imo so far at least. |

I have no issue with the players thinking about security and asking for the moon. The GM's need to be the adults and not just cave on these 7-year deals. A young dynamic player like Barzal you do not think twice about a long-term deal. A player like Wilson on the Caps is another issue. We need more 4- or 5-year tops type of deals. The lack of movement and teams being unable to make moves is not good for the league. It's not good UFA last barely a day and things are pretty much shutdown until late September. |

You like this deal Ses? Only 4 years.
Can they sign Nylander now? |

I think the NTC and modified MTCs are having more of an impact. They can't trade these players because of them. The cap can be worked around a lot easier. Add a pick to a deal , retain salary, get another team involved. But if you sign a guy for 7 8 years and give him a NTC , how are you gonna move him if you need, want to? |

Who do you think will be positive surprise and the negative surprise this year?
For me Palmieri will be positive (healthy year) and negative will be Pullock (has the tools to be in top pairing)
Who is your dark horse to make the team out of training camp.
Maggio getting at least a 9 game look

I get the players not wanting to move around, but it's not good for the sport to have most of these rosters locked in with very little movement. 7-year contracts and NTC should be very rare. It's not good you have a pretty much nothing offseason while other sports have exciting offseasons. |

I would an exciting offseason every year or even once in a while. 7 year deals, NMC, and NTC are made for the core and the elite.
I understand why the isles did what they did. However, in doing so they have hampered their opinions for the very near future.
People here were pissed with trading 1st rounders for active key players. Wait when the next GM uses them to get rid of some of these guys. Especially with a dry pipeline...Isles will need to look at hidden gems in the 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th rounds.
This all could have the making of a fire sale in 2025! Paint on the new building is still too fresh to even consider that at the end of this year.
