Pageau and Wahlstrom still doesn't clear the necessary space. Neither does the two of them plus demoting/trading Johnston also. That still leaves them just short of $500k over the cap.

They could trade Pageau/Wahlstrom, bury Johnston in the minors, and then have to bury Kuhlman in the minors. Then they'd have to pick if they wanted to carry an extra defenseman or an extra forward because they wouldn't have the cap space for two extra guys. They could recall Johnston if they sent the other spare player down and they'd have $134 in cap space (Going off what CapFriendly says)
