That's a top5 GM move - thanks for sharing. - washedup20
I mean thankfully Kevo is competent because they can't be trusted to make a competent outside hire.

The Ron Raccuia poop is kinda juicy. I'm actually surprised Tim Graham didn't take a poop on him yet.

What is different now vs this:
"Buffalo Sabres general manager Jason Botterill is still relatively new to the job, but one tendency he’s shown is his will to take on low-risk, high-reward players. Botterill doesn’t believe in building through free agency and isn’t likely to chase the big fish. Instead, he’ll look to buy low in trades and on the open market.
Last offseason Botterill took a chance on Nathan Beaulieu for only a third-round pick. The 25-year-old defenseman didn’t have a great season, but still has one more year remaining on his contract.
Benoit Pouliot was another flyer that Botterill took a shot on that was probably a wash. He wasn’t great at times but did score 13 goals on the season.
The other buy-low move that did work out was the trade for forward Scott Wilson. He came over with no points and ended the season with 14.
This summer there are few higher profile players that Botterill can target as buy-low options to improve his hockey club."

The only difference is quantity of 1st round picks for Adams, which cost him 3 nhl seasons and the existing core. I agree with the notion the core had to go, but to only get Tuch back while the rest of the return is based on promise. With the other weaknesses Adams has, he has backed himself into a corner and the solution to get out requires him to go through his weaknesses as GM. - washedup20
That nailed it, especially the last part.

I think it's good he's pushing out his worst defensemen.
I think it's bad he's creating a fake competition with 3 goaltenders and the best one is a rookie. One of the other two going elsewhere is fine but it's not a solution.
I'm irritated that Olofsson's spot and temporarily Quinn's spot hasn't been filled with a 1 year option, but I kinda get it. He wants internal competition there for the year, which is fine. I'd prefer Tatar.
Olofsson still being here is shoddy work. |

Olofsson, a healthy scratch at almost 5 million this season ,is a tough sell.
Didnt everyone want a look at savoie, benson and kulich?
Now the opportunity presents itself, and its somehow bad new? |

I don’t want either of those 3 given anything more than their 9 games. Rousek, Murray should get looks. |

He's done a below average job of creating a cohesive team in favor of some favorite toys that don't fit together well.
- Mittelstadt should be a top 6 center but there's no room for him so he'll need to be a winger
- Three goalies
- Pay three fourth liners, none of whom are really good at being centers
- bunch of defensemen but no real #4
- Olofsson likely in the top 6 now. They wanted to get rid of him a month ago |

According to this - Tage nor Cozens come close to the best value contracts in the NHL
I disagree on Tage (he’s listed as a 9 mil player) slightly, but agree that Cozens is market value
I once again am asking how is the great KA a “top 5” GM? - sbroads24
Both get slighted due to their defensive game which should undoubtedly improve over the coming years.
I don’t think Cozens has hit his ceiling offensively either.
We have one of the youngest playoff caliber rosters in the league coupled with a top 5, if not top 3, prospect pipeline in the league.
Only Sabres fans on Hockeybuzz hate the team currently |

This was our lineup down the stretch:
Skinner-Mittelstadt-Tuch
Greenway-Cozens-Tage
I expect it to look eerily similar to this opening night.
