He probably had a few decent seasons left in him too. Good for him. Hell of a player. |

DeBrusk and Swayman for UPL and Mittelstadt
Plug and play center for them - Hank Balling
I'm neither going to agree or disagree with this proposal, but I do believe the case of Casey Mittelstadt screams "sell high".

Whether they made money or not they defiantly revitalized the down town, or were at the least, a major player in it.

That's crazy. There's something in these athletes' diets, supplements, or medications that's making this happen on a more frequent than normal basis to otherwise healthy people. It's becoming plain as day.

This one goes both ways. Pat LaFontaine also quit a week after entering the Islanders' front office as well. I'm guessing this was a case of sewage water not mixing with contaminated oil.
That whole story still cracks me up. The Pegulas were supposedly impressed with him after hearing him speak at a concussion seminar. Terry basically said "hey, come run my hockey team" after hearing him speak on why he'll never be completely right in the head again.

10. Winnipeg Jets: RW Jack Quinn
Actual draft pick: No. 8 (change: -2) to Buffalo
My final ranking: No. 15 (change: +5)
Loyal readers and followers will know that even though I was lower on Quinn than where the Sabres picked him, I actually became a major proponent of his when I felt like the public discourse around him and that selection swung too negative (there was a time, during the world juniors, when the public bashing of Quinn got completely out of control). He was a legitimate winger prospect then, and he’s becoming a legitimate winger now. That he was a little bit of a late-bloomer made him more intriguing, not less. - TheSabresTaco

I’m a fan of the kid and the player (his work ethic, his detail, the way he plays off of his linemates, his goal-scoring instincts, etc.) and was happy to see him have a solid rookie season with the Sabres last year. He’s going to be an important piece of the future there.
15. Toronto Maple Leafs: LW JJ Peterka
Actual draft pick: No. 34 (change: +19) to Buffalo
My final ranking: No. 43 (change: +28)
Peterka has progressed really well since the draft. There was the 10 goals and 21 points in 32 regular-season and playoff games in the DEL in his post-draft. There was 80 points in 80 regular-season and playoff games as a rookie in the AHL. And then there was last year, establishing himself as an NHL regular in his second season in North America. His hardworking, driven game was always going to fit well on the smaller ice surface. When all is said and done, he’s going to be exactly the kind of player you hope to find in the second round: an up-and-down-the-lineup contributor who can produce but also gives you more than the numbers in his utility.

You don't say.
And Marco Rossi is 16 - TheSabresTaco
I think Scott is hit or miss with a lot of evaluations, but he hit the nail perfectly on the head there.
Peterka will never get the PP time here needed to put up big numbers, and I think he will be completely underrated during his time here despite being exactly what every team with Stanley Cup aspirations needs in a guy that can produce up and down the lineup at even strength.

That is the unfortunate part of the Jack Quinn experience so far.
He has the makeup of a high end 200 foot winger if it all comes together.
As the expression goes though, you can’t help the team from the tub.
Hopefully he can resume a healthy career once he recovers from the Achilles injury cause he can be a very important top 6 forward for us |

Quinn will be fine. Smaller guys are always more prone to injury. He'll learn his limits and gain experience in strength and training, and put on mass to endure NHL seasons.
Now if the guy is glass out on the ice for the next few years.. guess the tune changes.

Yes and no. Making a city aesthetically pleasing is crucial to making it an attractive place to live and do business, but it becomes meaningless if there's no substance behind it. At some point there needs to be one or more big businesses that put a sizable dent in the job market, and Buffalo still doesn't have that. You can't sustain an economy on bars and restaurants. The city is putting almost all its chips in the startup basket, which isn't entirely a bad thing, but one of them has to explode in order for this to really work. The problem is that these startups are either failing, as many of them do, or are getting bought out by bigger companies outside of the city, that don't have the same commitment to growing it. |

I don't see how they're tied together. Think Peterka just keeps doing his thing, feel like Mittelstadt or Thompson swap into Quinn's spot until his return.
Peterka isn't a PP asset like Quinn

what you're talking about is happening on a whole sale level and part of that is making Buffalo a desirable place to be. M & T for example is investing a lot of money downtown. Of course I agree more corporations need to move in, but Buffalo is already trending in the right direction and you can visibly see it.
Using the waterfront for business as well as recreation is that gold mine.

probably gets to play with a better play maker than quinn
