I dont think they wanted the specter of Peca looming behind Granato. The fans would be clamoring to make him HC by Halloween if things don't start well.
They want a nice, patient season with no expectations. No one wants Matt Ellis as HC - Hank Balling
They shouldnt have finished strong if they wanted that. Its why I held out hope theyd be more aggressive, because when you finish 1 pt out, theres really no other way to sell growth again without making it. |

caps, blues and wings had 80 or 81 points last season
how much better is the sabres than those 3 teams right now? |

Donnie certainly wasn't going to tank. I doubt Adams loves the optics that Olofsson, Comrie and UPL were unplayable in important games down the stretch but Granato recognized that was necessary.
Now he's going to coach a roster with those players in even more prominent positions |

A lot? The wings and blues sucked. Caps are a bit tougher to judge. |

Did anyone think Mitts was better than Montour at the time of the trade?
Does anyone think Mitts is better than Montour now?
Who had a 5 year plan involving the drafting of forwards (minus 1OA) and rebuilding the team, only at year 4 to have massive voids that have been ignored with players like Mitts as the focal point of hoping it works out? While Montour gets traded for peanuts and thrives due to the player he is.
Adams struggles to evaluate and manage men. He has the mindset of a midget major manager. |

If the biggest issue you have with your HC as GM is that he recognizes correctly who is unplayable you have it pretty good. All the more reason for Adams give him the best roster possible. |

team stayed healthy last season Tage Tuch and Dahlin scoring got crushed at the end of the year (from Jan on for Tage nd Dahlin) cuz of injuries
top 5 scoring team And should be the same
career years for many guys And most are in young 20s and only getting better. Skinner is the only one with a real risk of regression. Power, Cozens, JJ, Casey, Tage should all progress
puck luck when their way many times on the road And they were horrible at home, so that should correct itself
6k had a winning record, you all say he sucks Cuz all of the above.
zero chance any of this goes in the other direction, you are right - homiedclown For very glass half empty clown, I'm your glass half full |

kinda ties back to my point that I think they think his job is safer than it actually is. - Michael Ghofrani
A riskaverse GM is a GM who normally doesn't last long, unless his management has zero expectations. |

It is nothing less than gross negligence as GM to saddle your head coach with the players he correctly deemed as unplayable.
No other way around it. |

Yes and no. Risk averse GMs are maybe as likely to get fired as big risk takers (that come up short) but I think their career in the NHL in general is a bit longer.
That may be the issue here. Adams wasnt one of the handful in line for the next wave of GM openings. So if he bets big on a deal and it blows up in his face, thats all he'll be remembered for and likely costs him a shot at another GM role.
At his current pace, he'll be a guy who came up short but oversaw a chunk of the turnaround. Whether its correct to attribute that to him or not is a matter of debate, but I bet he's far more likely to land another management job in that scenario. |

He also successfully convinced a large portion of both the fan base and local media that patience and development is key to long-term success while also never putting a timeline on beginning success. This job is his for at least 2.5 more seasons and another coach.
Don't set expectations and you'll guarantee a satisfactory performance |

other than Botts, none of the Pegula's whiffs ever came close the sane job title with another nhl team |

They only last longer for management groups that have zero expectations of being a real team.
His seat should be warm this season if he makes no further meaningful moves. |

Regier was Senior VP for ARZ before stepping down for personal reasons. not a GM or Ass GM role but still a decent one.
Botts got another as you mentioned. But the Tim Murray's and Paul Fentons are cooked. |

Well yeah and thats almost certainly where his next role would be (either that or lesser spot for an established team).
I think it will be but Hank is probably right, in that scenario he probably cuts Granato loose. |

Then what do you do with your NTDP roster (that failed) and the new coach? Round 4 of rebuild? |

Umm. Unloading Eichel, Risto, and Reinhart.
I get he was forced but still. Very risky to do what he did |

Wouldn't call that risky, still ? to be answered with all those trades. Thank God Tuch has been a monster |
