For flower beds, just mulch every year. You will have a few come up, just pick em out when they do. No chemicals that will give your children extra limbs

A few years ago one of my buddies got tired of the struggle and smuggled some weed killer over the border. He lives on a busy street and felt like someone might notice (which was ridiculous), so he sprayed it after dark. Walked out the next morning to find his entire lawn dead!! He bought the wrong stuff!

Yes, but they are all subject to federal laws that restrict pesticides. And any of the stuff you guys have that REALLY work, we aren't allowed. They are mostly "not harmful to the environment."

I use vinegar a lot, too. It's great because it's non-toxic, but it won't kill the weeds fully. If you dose them with vinegar, wait a day or two and then pull them, otherwise they will rebound. It makes them much less resistant and easier to pull the whole root.

Huh. I can't say as this topic is that high on my radar. But, a little digging shows that the Canadian Federal gov't was poised to ban Round Up (specifically glyphosate), but couldn't make up it's mind as to whether it was truly dangerous. Since then, many provinces and cities have restricted or prohibited it's use. All I know is that here on the border, people talk all the time about going over to NY state to buy pesticides.
So I guess, while I could seemingly order Round Up from Homedepot.ca, I might not be able to walk into my local store and find it.
