Just to be a bit of a devils advocate, what exactly had LAF done to be valued so much more than Slaf? LAF was quite pedestrian too on a significantly better team when he was drafted.
Slaf, 0.25 ppg
LAF, 0.375 ppg (0.42 ppg for his career thus far, which for a 1st overall pick is a let down)
Right now, as I see it… lets say the Rangers trade for Slaf, 1 for 1. As a result heres the dominos…
The Rangers have no obligation to call him up and can start him in the AHL. Thus freeing up 2.5m in salary, potentially enough money to bring back Tarasenko.
Slaf can join Othmann, Sykora and all the other potentials in AHL and grow with them. - aecliptic
I think the risk for trading Slafkovsky after one year in the NHL is too high for Montreal to consider that. Lafreniere has been a better player but also has a bigger sample size and has really only showed very marginal improvement from year 1 to year 3.
Doesn't mean he won't ultimately be a better player than Slavkofsky, but I don't see Montreal giving up on him after one season unless they're trading him to bring in someone that is a significantly better player. |

In a way, don’t we feel that Laf being on a good team has hurt his production? Montreal had no reason to not give Slafkovsky top minutes but for some reason he played only 11 min a game.
Extremely risky move for both teams to make, probably more so for Montreal having seen so little of him. |

Better than talking about weed treatments like most of you spent yesterday doing
Think the benefit is he would be cheaper for this season and potentially fits the 3rd line need better. Honestly, we have no idea how the league views Laf currently. Suppose one hint is the lack of offer sheets which kinda seemed like a no brainer given the low(ish) cost. |

I mean I can get into talking Lafreniere to Montreal but trading Lafreniere for another LW just seems so silly

That’s fair, didn’t really consider the position factor.
For the Rangers, I can’t see them making the trade unless it’s for a similar return. The outrage from Laf breaking out elsewhere would be crippling unless we got a potential star in return. |

I like the idea to acquire a guy still in the midst of his entry level deal though
I think Ottawa would love to have Lafreniere, I'd target a young guy like Ridly Greig if I were in charge

I think if laf goes to Mtl Rangers should get that Jackeye dude. He could be the Lindgren replacement on the left side down the road. I think I’d want another piece tho
For poops n giggles,
Miller Fox
Xhekaj Schneider is nice top 4 for a bunch of years |

3.6 mil for next 3 years
Riley Kidney, Filip Mesar and Sean Farrell would be solid prospects to target form Montreal if that was the route |

I think they should just sign Tarasenko to the Wheeler deal and make a side arrangement to give him long term deal in January and then just deal with all the female doging people will do about it

(frank) 'em all.
I still think Tarasenko wants to be a NYR and they might be able to figure something out. I really want it to be that Goodrow is gone. |
