I think this was more like a tongue and cheek comment/joke. SuperHendy didnt literally say that but he did propose quite a lot of pieces, including a 1st and conditional pick that could be a 1st, for what the general consensus around the league is a cap dump.
Having said all of that, I think in some of the too-many-to-count EK blogs the past month, or so, there has been proposals in the comments with two 1sts in it haha. - MattStrat
A 1st, 3rd, and a mid-level prospect is a lot for a Norris-winning defensemen signed at $7.0M? If the condition for the 2025 pick is the Penguins win the Cup, then I hope like hell we have to give them that 1st.
And the trade wouldnt be a cap dump at all. We are having them take salary in Petry, whose value is not high, and retain $4.5M.
But maybe we give them Granlund, Carter, Petry, and a career AHLer for Karlsson, and maybe we even have San Jose throw in a 1st round pick too. |

Petry's 15 team no trade list will likely cut out all the west coast teams. Consistent reporting across the board is he wants to stay as close to Michigan as possible. So, likey on that list is SJ, ANA, ARZ who are teams that could absorb the cap hit. On the east coast side it's basically just Chicago that's realistic for him at this point. So, it would be 3-team deal Petry to CHI, with sweetener depending if CHI wants to eat up some of Karlsson cap as well. Maybe Petry + 1st in 2024 to CHI for 3rd/4th/B-level prospect in 2024 with 10-20% of EK salary taken up. SJ gets probably conditional 1st in 2025 for unrealistic expectations that will probably never be met, otherwise a 2nd or 3rd, and maybe POJ while eating up a good chunk of salary on EK. DeSmith may be somewhere in there too..
CHI: Petry (full cap hit) + 20% of EK cap hit not taken on by SJ, PIT 1st in 2024
PIT: EK at (33% retained by SJ=7.7, then CHI taking 20%of that = 6.17 hit/year)
SJ: conditional PIT 2025 1st if win cup/norris/80pt season (more likely 2nd or 3rd), POJ, DeSmith, CHI B-level prospect/mid pick |

One of the moronic sports radio guys in Pittsburgh went out of his way to say this. Said it would cost two 1st's, Pickering, POJ and then a roster player. Hack stuff |

Hahaha sarcasm is flying around here today. The thing about your proposal is 40% of a 11.5 cap hit retained.. That's not a straight up cap dump by any means, so I kind of think of it's a trade between just the Pens and Sharks, with no 3rd team involved and 40% retained, that 1sts would have to be included, at least one... |

Haha right it was clearly an exaggeration. Some people got no sense of humor.
That said, people are offering too much. There's a pretty high chance Karlsson ends up being a disaster. No need to go all GMJR to aquire him and throw in more. Even if you want to trade all the picks, save some for other trades. |

Lol this is precisely the time you can afford to hang onto a player--during a rebuild.
It's nuts that a player so good is fetching little value in return. It tells the Sharks are being squeezed. Might as well wait a year when the cap jumps and that value improves, at least slightly. |

I wasnt trying to be defensive, I was legitimately confused whether you were referring to my offer or if someone else had posted one I didnt see.

You cant hang onto him. Karlsson is coming off a Norris and his best season since being in SJ. Unlikely he repeats that. If you wait another year, in all probability, his output lowers and its possible he is injured during the season.
Trade him now and be glad to be rid of that contract. |

He's missed 79 games in 5 seasons, has never come close to this type of production with SJ, is on the wrong side of 30, and is extremely expensive. He finally has value again. It's time they move on. Keeping him provides nothing.
Plus he said he isn't going back to SJ. |

I'm still sticking with him still wearing a Shark on his chest come October. Sorry EK. If it was almost any other GM in the league he'd have moved at the draft. |

Interesting seeing the leafs on there. $6 mil over the cap. Would need to do something with Murray. Then somehow dump Brodie and that contract as well as find a suitor for Nylander. |

Watching game 4 of Pens/Blackhawks from 92. Damn.... Pens would have scored at least 10 if not for Hasek.
Is there any better tag line from a play by play guy than "He beat him like a rented mule!" So f'n funny. Lang in his prime was brilliant.
Just remembering Jagr had Troy Loney on his line... That dude had cement mitts. |

Reminds me a lot of Talbot on Malkin's line. He missed so many quality shots, but nailed the few that meant the most. |

Isn't he straight up saying he doesn't want to be a Shark in October? That plus the fact there's teams trying to make it work for him makes me believe that he will not be a Shark in October.

It's really nuts that nobody in this forum predicted that EK's contract would become an albatross.
How did everyone miss that?
San Jose made their bed, now they have to lie in it.

Murray placed on LTIR. Leafs *should* be able to find a suitor for Nylander and clear his cap. Then use some of those assets and include Brodie in a deal as a “cap dump” for Karlsson.
Leafs might actually be able to pull it off. |
