Show I liked better than band of brothers was the pacific. But ya, HBO series are by far the best. Even back to OZ was above its time.

OZ was awesome. Hard to believe that Christopher Meloni was in that show

The books the pacific are based on are pretty intense. I just rewatched it actually. Much darker than brothers.

I really liked boardwalk might be my fav hbo series.

The way GOT ended really ruined it for me.

Oh the last season of GoT was absolute trash but the production of the show is still second to none when it comes to television, that was more what I was referring to. I love Boardwalk, Gyp Rosetti was awesome.

You liked the PAcific more? I don't think I got into the Pacific that much. It was done by the same people from BoB wasn't it? Oz was gnarly.
- j.boyd919

Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks did BoB and Pacific. You should check out some of their other work, it's not bad.

The production of got was amazing. But the last 2 seasons just ruined the whole experience for me.

Of the series I’ve seen I think board walk is the best.

Generation kill is also phenomenal! Rarely discussed but the best adaptation of anything relating to the global war on terror. Again based on incredible books.

The first three or so seasons of true blood are unironically good and then it turns into unmitigated garbage. The Dexter syndrome

Band if brothers single handedly got me to join the military. I’ve watched the Pacific too but I think the story arc of Bob takes the cake.

Haha, I've watched the Sopranos in it's entirety like 7-8 times. Sometimes I'll just throw on a random episode as background noise, but then I'll get hooked again and re-watch the whole series lol I have never watched BB again, I honestly should. Dunno how much TV we'll be watching after the baby's born though and that's going to be any day now haha.
- j.boyd919

Congrats bud! I second what Vic said. For the first while there isn't much to be doing but watching stuff or playing VGs. They just sleep on and off non stop haha.

Usually I can only get into HBO stuff, it's about the only stuff that keeps my attention, but I still think BB tops it all for me. Also, just finished Succession and it fn rocked.

I've never watched Band of Brothers...it was something I wanted to watch but put it off and off until I completely forgot about it. This comment section has reminded me about it...I will watch it soon.

Late in on this, but I had to throw my 2-cents in as a Sopranos fan.

Loved the whole thing from start to finish. I enjoyed the beginning and middle of the series more than the last couple of seasons. Once they introduced the cops and the law enforcement angle became a major plot point, I stopped enjoying it as much. Cops, snitches, everyone turning on each other, it kinda took the fun out of it. It had less and less dark humor moments and just more depressing poop. I know that's kinda the whole point of mob stories - always dark and always end badly, but I've rewatched the first few seasons more than once, but I usually lose interest when the cop bullpoop starts up and end up watching something else.

My wife hates it that one of my favorite characters is a POS - Ritchie Aprile.

My TV consumption did a massive uptick with children. There’s just nothing else to go to hike you’re watching an inanimate object all the time.

BoB is amazing. Possibly the best thing ever produced for TV. The interviews with the real-life soldiers as old men interwoven into the episodes takes it over the top.

It was the first cinema-style/scale production for a TV miniseries, which of course has become common in the streaming era. Keep that in mind if you watch it for the first time now, that when BoB was made it was truly original to try something like this. It probably only got green lighted because of Spieldberg and Hanks.

I always said I want to have all my water crafts bought and paid for before I think about kids. That way they can grow up on the water and take me out when I’m old.

Do any of you guys coach hockey?

Both my boys play on travel teams. This year I only need to be certified for the same age group as last year, so I don't have to do the endless USA Hockey age-specific online training. I refreshed my SafeSport training today, just need to do the required annual USA Hockey coaching clinic at some point during the fall.

Our season here starts right after Labor Day and goes through mid April. The only weekend without games is Xmas. My boys each have 2-3 on-ice practices per week and 1-2 games on the weekends. I am at the ice rink 5-6 days each week, on ice myself at least 3 days / week. It's crazy, but my boys love it. My older son also played spring league this year which tacked May and June onto the season (and I helped coach that team).

Hahah yeah the plan is to get a 24 foot center console so we can do some offshore fishing but still get one that’s family friendly.

I coached for sons team for 2 years. It's a lot of fun, but is such a long season. Only real ssues were dealing with som parents. But, overall is a ton of fun and a great experience. I only wanted to do 2 years as wanted him to have different coaches.

For sure. Just an incredible insight on what deployed moral was like, the real sacrifices, true stories, etc etc etc. then (like you said) meeting the real people the char. represented. Can’t think of a criticism.

I've never had any problems with other parents on the teams I've coached ... but on some of the teams we've played against, wow. Some parents have totally lost the plot on raising their kids. Yelling at the refs, etc. It's crazy.

When a kid crosschecks one of my sons I don't even look at the ref. I want to see how my boys react in those situations.

My older son got leveled from behind near the crease in a game last year (keep in mind no checking at this age). He looked at the ref, no call, so he skated hard down to the d zone, defended, then when the puck went the other way and refs had turned he slashed that kid on the back of the leg where there's no padding. And that was that. They both dropped it and just played the rest of the game with no problems.

The only issue is the source material. Steven Ambrose started ww2 books after saving private Ryan and ride that wave. He exaggerated quite a bit and even fabricated some parts of his books.

The material for the pacific was all first hand accounts.

Youth sports has gotten ridiculous.

It’s a huge cash cow for the organizations. Guilt parents into such a massive commitment.

I’d rather get a boat and spend the weekend with the family making memories vs staying in Hampton inns in rando towns in the weekends. But if my kids push for I’m sure I’ll cave.
