Wasn't that proud warrior killed by the U.S. military?
I don't think that the Blackhawk logo is nearly as derogatory as the Cleveland or Atlanta logos. When I saw Blair Atcheynum(Native American) say that he wore the sweater with pride, although just one man's opinion, I figured that the logo will be around for a while. - Dieselhead

Put yourself in the shoes of a First Nations person and think if you’d like to be represented by an idiotic cartoon rendering of the Cleveland Indians or the proud depiction of the Blackhawk logo. |

Not to be negative, but not only would I not read Lazerus's writing, I wouldn't pee on him if he was on fire. But I also don't wish him any ill either. And no matter if you like someone or not there is a time for respect and for RW that time is now. - 6628

The internet is a sad place... sadder for some because they seem to tie their entire persona to it - so you get that sort of thing.
The logo ... dunno, only people I ran into that were indigenous, over in Kansas City (North Kansas City, to be exact) ... had no problem at all with it - in fact they thought it was pretty cool -this was maybe 1993-ish. For all I know, they actually might have been Fox-Sac - I never asked, as it never came up.
There are some people though, for which nothing ever will be right.
Rocky ... well, I mean, who am I but a lone guy - - - I appreciate what he did for the team -> everything, and it is undeniable that it was massive. When the chips were down, imo, he did not shirk what had to be done. I mean if anyone needs to go there (and in my opinion, you don't). I remember with WWW passed along, and I mean there was a man who you could tell had a passion for hockey, no matter what anyone felt about him - like-wise, his son ... but I mean, that literally was the single most successful period of Chicago hockey. And some massive changes. I wished I'd have had a chance to tell him ... but I know enough others did share similar sentiments, so there is that.

Just saw the news that Rocky passed, sad day.
What makes it even sadder are the comments, yikes!
Can't believe so many people have a problem with Kyle Beach having a 3some with another guy and chick and being gay. |

That is my thought as well…..
It takes the death of Rocky to show that POS face of his in public…
Then again, I wouldn’t be surprised if he didn’t show because he is the BIGGEST POS coward ever…
The entire franchise tarnished all on him, that POS….
He deserves the shame but to chicken sh!t to own it….

My daughter used to teach at a Native First Nation Cree community Kashetchewan on the West Bank of James Bay. The Natives have both a hockey and baseball leagues for kids and adults and every different colour jersey has the Blackhawk logo. Seems they like it. - paulr
Most of the people so offended by the logo are white women, who have probably never even met an indigenous person. We have a local high school that was the Braves and had an arrowhead as the logo and no mascot. At the school board meeting to change this "offensive" name and logo was all white women, not one indigenous person but the name and logo got changed. Drives me crazy. |

Elizabeth Warren should be scalped for claiming to be Indian descent. Where are the Native groups trying to cancel her?

Rocky could of easily directed all the venom directed at him to Mc Donough, but instead he took all the punches. Sounds like a stand-up guy to me. I think he learned a lesson that I am sure Danny will heed going forward. Do not trust a family business to someone who is not family.

Wow, so young. Sad news. Sounds like Danny Wirtz has been heavily involved with the team so they should be in good hands going forward. |

I am 73, and this just shows how you never know when it is your time.
I wonder, if this had happened 18 months earlier if Kyle Davidson would have been given the free reign to tank and even be close to the bottom to win the Bedard lottery.
Do yourself a favor and don't read the subscriber comments after the Athletic announcement, written by Mark Lazarus.
You will avoid much of what is wrong and sad about the internet, and fans of other teams . - wiz1901
I feel that people struggle to differentiate between a bad person and a good person who did something bad (or made a bad choice). None of us are good people who only make the best choices. With a public figure like Mr. Wirtz we'll never know all the details of their lives. While we shouldn't ignore the bad decisions a good person makes, I don't feel we should let it define them or overshadow the good they've done. There's always nuances of course, but we need to view each situation in context.
Mr. Wirtz has made some tremendous contributions to his community and bringing the Blackhawks back to relevance. Not only did that bring happiness and excitement to the fan base, but it also created jobs and helped improve the quality of life for many families. Yes, the Wirtz family made money along the way too, but that's how corporations work and there's nothing wrong with that.
I don't have an issue with reporters including the Kyle Beach situation, but when the report focus on this issue or is dominating the report I think that's ignoring the great work Mr. Wirtz has done.
Report the good and the bad, in proper context to who the person is.

I actually have a problem with reporters including the gay Kyle Beach situation.
From what I know it had nothing to do with Rocky's passing. They bring it up like Rocky was the one having gay sex with Kyle Beach. I honestly don't even know what kind of a human Rocky was,but I know I could write something up like: Blackhawks owner Rocky Wirtz has passed away. He will be missed by his friends and family.
And that is it. Or if you are gonna mention that he changed the franchise and played a part in making the Blackhawks relevant again, and was owner when a supposed "sexual assault" happened, you can mention that as well. But,I'd also mention that Kyle Beach had gay sex with the "assaulter". |
