oh right. Perhaps. If you're objectively looking at it, this was an unhappy, selfish player (well prior to injury) demanding a surgery that has never been performed on an NHL player.
The Sabres had an extremely valuable asset to manage, and when it came to risk/reward, the strategy was finding another team to take on the risk (of surgery), which was in all likelihood moderate at best.
It was not Adams' decision to create that scenario. Jack didn't want to be here before, during and after the whole ordeal. Adams said fine, we'll trade you. The org didn't go out on a limb to accommodate him with the requested, moderately risky surgery considering the risk/reward wasn't there.
So while Adams can be "blamed" for waiting until the November after the March veiled trade request, he did what was right for the organization. Get the best assets in return and send him to a team that would be happy to perform the surgery for an elite talent.
I can promise you. Promise you. That if the player was Rasmus Dahlin, the Sabres (medical team/Pegulas) would have allowed the procedure. - TheSabresTaco
selfish player prior to injury - why is that? Was he the only unhappy player in the organization?
extremely valuable asset to manage, and when it came to risk/reward, the strategy was finding another team to take on the risk (of surgery), which was in all likelihood moderate at best. - this decision led to another team using that asset to lift the Stanley Cup
Adams said fine, we'll trade you. The org didn't go out on a limb to accommodate him with the requested- this is not business conducted in a timely manner - this is pettiness by an owner and a GM with no backbone
So while Adams can be "blamed" - literally part of his job, as he is the decision maker
Jack was immature, the organization was a mess - both are true.
The question for Dahlin's camp is, what is the likelihood the organization will regress into that style of ownership/management or not.

No, I'm sure he wasn't the only unhappy player. Most were miserable and players have stated such.
When I reference business I specifically meant contract negotiation, sorry to leave that more open ended. Trades like that can take a lot of time in such a special case like that. It is what it is. Look at Karlsson and he's healthy.
Adams' job is to manage the personnel, not to handle medical procedures. I don't know why we're blaming him for denying a surgery.
Dahlin's agent (newport) is extremely familiar with how Adams operates, well beyond his time as GM. But, yeah, one of their questions should be 'what does the future hold for this franchise?'

Well said.
Very good point on the Karlsson situation. |

Yeah, that's a thought. Finding young defensive fixtures is apparently not the easiest thing in the world so they probably wanted to make sure they had him locked in to build around the big 3. - TheSabresTaco
Exactly, 4.3M isn't a small number, but if he becomes a shutdown 2nd pairing guy, he'll be well worth it during the course of that deal. |

Not that he would do it, but Dahlin has the option of waiting the whole season out, accepting his $7.2M qualifying offer, and becoming an unrestricted free agent after the 24-25 season. - kingcong39
This will probably happen 😀😀😀
Adam's hasnt showed any signs of locking up core players for long term for reasonable contracts...... |

Adams told Eichel to give him 1 more year / 1 shot to turn the team around.
That is why Adams went out to get Eric staal, Taylor Hall, and whom ever else we signed.
He obviously failed and completely rebuilt - Sabretooth9
Does it concern you that he has yet to bring in an NHL vet that positively impacts team via free agency?
How much of that is due to Terry taking a massive dump on the Sabres brand that already struggled to bring in FA talent? |

I can see not including him simply because he hasn't done anything yet. There's the potential he's too washed and doesn't really help. |

As far as earning, the early extensions for 3 core players have already been completed. I would assume the trend will continue for the team's vital pieces.
Which still casts questions on Mittelstadt and if he's seen as core or complimentary, or he simply hasn't proved his worth.
Why does Samuelsson get a big extension but not Mittelstadt? Open question. - TheSabresTaco
Because he showed his worth from day 1.
Casey showed he was lazy, fat, uninspired... mentally and physically immature...who knows what he would end up being...and we are still waiting to see clearly.
There are remaining question about consistency. |

while fair and accurate, his attitude has completely reversed the past.. 2..3 years? Believe he was a 'new man' in Krueger's last season.
Injuries and inconsistency absolutely are taken into account.
Just find it curious that Mitts' half season doesn't get him an extension but Sam's 20 games do. There's a lot more that goes into it, of course. Just something to think about.

You've alluded to the bold more than once.
What do you mean?
Are you saying one or more members of the staff would quit over a Kane signing? - kingcong39
Imagine you work in the analytics department, building projects for the team that take months to develop, only for the team to turn around and throw money at Kane, would you stick around?
If you're gunna operate on the exact opposite of the reasons you brought those guys to the team in the first place, how long do you suppose theyll stick around?
I know hes beloved by the south buffalo folks in here, but for a lot of people not from that patch of land, he's a bad dude with a checkered past who sucks at hockey. As it turns out, the south buffalo isnt enough if you can believe that! |

Some decent microstat numbers to his game (d zone retrieval/exits). But mostly a second Kyle I would think, unless theres tracking data suggesting otherwise. |

I see a clear distinction myself, yet I have asked the same question about Mitts...should he be signed long term, is he a core piece.
I think he is on the cusp, and I'd like to see that consistency play out for real over the upcoming season.
However, in thinking about down the road in say 2 years, he becomes a prime trade chip IMO...good enough to get a solid return at a position of need, and likely too expensive to retain given the pool of then-ready younger players.
I sincerely believe the middle six players are likely to be churned when their contracts become relatively expensive. |

Isn't there a quote from Mitt's saying he was amazed at how much better he feels working out, after 2 seasons in the NHL already?

Is Mario Lemieux a bad hockey player?
