Might as well be 2019 as it's going to be another 3 years before we sniff the playoffs.

Mitts has never put together a full nhl season, so to assume he will because he played well the last half of last season is high risk. He did the exact same thing the season before.
Kane had 45 points in 54 games with Chicago.
He had 12 in 19 in the regular season and 6 points in 7 games with NYR. His offense is still there, and he is expected to be healthier next season. - washedup20
63 points in 80 games at age 34 with a bum hip, we would all kill for Mitts to have those stats.
Jim Kelley was a piece of crap too but ya’ll still slob his knob because he “changed”. Right lol |

He'll be a fixture at the Chautaqua Summertime BBQs. Rumor has it that Adams' next boat is going to be named after the guy. |

I'm holding out for the Gummy Bear Celly Song.
EDIT: Not even kidding though - what teams are we bumping out of the playoffs from last year and even if we manage to be better than one of those teams - are we also better than Detroit / Ottawa / Pitt? I don't know man.
Not to mention - Columbus could actually turn it around and Montreal isn't going to be completely awful either. |

My gripe is that this is a better team today then it was at this point last year.
The team missed the playoffs by one point last year and the Atlantic division lost a lot of talent this offseason.
I don’t see why there is so much pessimism but to each their own.

I really hope Adams plan works and the additions help. A lot has to go right and he hasn't left himself much wiggle room. |

What team are we knocking out of the playoffs? After that, are you certain that we have improved significantly beyond Ottawa and Detroit and think that we can for sure beat out Sid and Malkin in possibly their last push?

Assuming linear progression is as smooth brained as you can get.

Even using linear progression - two teams that finished right around us have drastically improved their teams this offseason - Detroit and Ottawa. The only team I really see stepping back is Boston and let's be real Bergeron and Krejc leaving while bad isn't enough to drop them 20 wins.

Is it though, we all hope it is. A lot of things fell nicely for the Sabres last year. Teams sh!t the bed at times last year that really helped the Sabres keep within striking distance. I like Levi and hope for the Best, but Adams is asking a lot of him. And I do like the Clifton signing, but there is ? with him. Johnson brings leadership, but is 1 good hit to the head from Retirement. Adams has a plethora of Assets, he could have done better IMO. |

It’s literally the same team.

A scoring regression is absolutely coming.
They have upgraded their defence and goaltending though on top of that.
Every team in the Atlantic has question marks.
There is a lot of hockey to play, why are we just assuming defeat already though ? |

Levi played 7 games last year.
Mitts was useless for the first 40 games which I doubt will be the case this year.
Peterka, Krebs, Power, heck even Cozens are another year older.
Clifton is an upgrade on the back end.
Stillman an upgrade over Bryson
Tage, Skinner, Tuch, and Dahlin are all gravy even if there is a slight scoring regression.

You had me until goaltending. I do understand what you mean, but I think the real answer is that position now has higher upside relative to last year. They haven’t mitigated the risk though. It’s still a massive bet on a very young goalie. It could work, but I can’t pretend like there’s no room for skepticism there. |

Adams also locked down the dominant 4th line , prior to july 1st free agency. Very savvy move ,not allowing your leadership to leave the organization.
+2 + (+3) = 5 moves |
