Yep, I think TM would have shown people that. Went out and got some big names in the Top 6 but never finished the team around them. - Buff36
This will be season 4 where Adams fails to balance the roster.

Can't take away that he has built up the Organization, he continued a path that Botts started. But there comes a point where you have to go outside the Organization to finish your puzzle. You can try and draft it but those same prospects you hope would fill those places don't always meet time wise or development wise. |

He built up the organization by trading the existing core and losing for 3 seasons. Drafting early in the 1st round is not a skill.
The only players to make a positive impact
for the Sabres are Tuch and Power. Quinn (band-aid) and Peterka did well last season too.
As much promise the prospects have, even local writers are confused as to what he’s doing. |

Yeah, I mean there where some good opportunities the last couple years. He could have done some damage with the assets he had. |

Both GM's were fired around this time for failing at the same thing, to end up here, again, is either influenced by Terry or Adams has ignored his predecessors.

I beg to differ.
No matter wheee you are picking, you need to hit on the pick.
TMGM might still be here if he drafted Draisatil over Reinhart, and anyone other than Alex Nylander in 2016

Things look promising for many of the prospects, but what has he hit on yet?
Power?
Does Quinn already count as a hit?
There is still a lot to be determined with his picks. |

The only pick that Adams made that wasn’t a 1st round pick that has produced is Peterka, that was a good pick. |

All 4 are still in the NHL, even Eichel couldn’t cover for the unbalanced roster that was GMTM, Botts even Adams.

TM should have been fired as soon as he made that "excuse me Puke burp" Hudson Fasching trade. |

pretty much everyone had reinhart 2 in that class though
what is crazy is most had leon number 4 behind bennett
the misses with the next 4 picks from 31 to 61 hurt
sergachev should have been the pick in 16 but if he picked jost, doubt things would be any different

A good process leads to good results.
I am bullish on the front office because I believe in their process to date.
Going long term as early as they could on Tage, Cozens, Samuelsson will pay huge dividends in the future in terms of maximizing the cap.
Giving Olofsson only two years when they did instead of going long term was another one (there have been many instances in the past decade where teams have gone long term on their own version of Olofsson over the years to only have a regrettable contract)
Their draft classes have yet to show the results but I believe in the rationale behind them and what they are identifying when they go to the draft table. Quinn had a stellar rookie season, Peterka looks the part of a top 6 forward. The rest of the prospects are to be determined, but with where where they are in their respective development curves, there are very good probabilities that Kulich, Savoie, and Benson develop into top 6 forwards.
Devon Levi has the potential to be a #1 goalie and one of a handful of guys that actually matter. Will it be as early as this season ? Probably not. However, if Levi does live up to that potential, then Adams has struck gold on quite possibly the second hardest position to identify after an elite 1C.
Adams’ biggest problem to date is he has been reluctant to spend assets on short term fixes in order win in the present at the expense of the future. There has been an appetite to not trade for rentals (which mostly can be rationalized to this point) or splurge on players that may not fit the entire window we have opening up here.
The time to do that is this year, and although everyone including myself expected him to do it this offseason, I think internal growth and the additions of Clifton and Johnson, are possibly enough to have this team make the playoffs this season. Or at the very least have them in that position come trade deadline time where he will have to make that move.

What window ? Adams at this point doesn't seem to have a window. You seem to point that out but the way it is going the window will be shut on Tuch and Skinner. It's fabulous that the prospect pool is deep but you also have to align that with the talent you have on your roster. |
