Love Matheson. A complete steal by Hughes trading an aging Petry for him.

Wouldn't be shocked to see him put up 50 points if healthy.

What can Habs fans expect from veteran blue liner Mike Matheson this season?

- Karine Hains

Yeah, was a good deal and he was much better than expected - almost like the Florida version of himself. I think he will be around for the contract, and then, will not be resigned as the kids come up and play / get experience. Always nice to have a productive veteran presence in the line-up that is happy to be playing here, especially given the next few years will be a struggle.

Also, I bet he does not take the REM.

Almost like trading an old broken Petry for a younger productive Petry.

So the Petry dream is still alive for Pete.

I was just at the opening of a new exterior habitat, little primates going outside for the first in their lifes, they were so ecstatic it was really awesome after all the work we put in.

If that's all it took every god damn fairy figure skater would be in the NHL.

When I say fairy I don't mean homo, I mean when they dress up as literal fairies to reenact Disney movies for the kids.

Matheson will be around for term of his contract, and it should be interesting to see his influence on Hutson when Hutson gets to Montreal in few years.

Trades are coming, they can't keep all that talent coming up.

I spent a lot of time at the Toronto Zoo photographing those animals. I could sit at one habitats for hours, just watching and waiting for the perfect picture. That is such a great place and the work they do for animal conservation is really amazing.

You wouldn't trade a first and a 3rd for Lafrenière?

I would.

that first could be a 1st overall. 2024 is supposed to be a good draft. I'd wait next year to start trading our 1st. Habs should then be better, draft later...

There might be some trades, but spots will be opening up in the next few years.

After this year: Hoffman, Pitlick, Wideman, Monahan OUT Edmunson and Alzner off books + ~11M cap space and 4 kids
After next year: Dvorak, Armia, Evans, Savard, Kovacevic OUT ~14M cap space and 5 more kids

So inserting 4 or 5 kids every year will be fine, don't want an all rookie line-up.
They can probably get by without trades for the next couple of years

That would be a very difficult choice.

We've only seen 30 something games out of Slaf.
