Tkachuck is the guy I was referring to. He was the leader of this team. Barkov may be an all-star, but he's not elite. Especially come playoff time. And yes, Ekblad was the other. Thanks! - Phillywhiteout
Barkov is elite -- more elite than Ekblad for sure. |

You're the one that says a team needs 4-5 elite players/stars to be true contenders. Florida has two and maybe three if you include Bob. He played very well in this years playoffs, but was he really considered a star/elite before this year's playoffs? I'd say NO! He was considered a way overpaid goalie that the Panthers wanted to unload. My points are so easy to make when you're wrong, but you are the king of spin doctoring! Congrats on that and thanks!
 - Phillywhiteout
You should've read Black Hands comment before posting again. You just proved his point. I guess Brandon Montour, who scored 70+ points as a defenseman and Carter Verhaeghe, who was in the top 10 in the NHL in goals scored with 41, aren't star level players? There's Tkachuk, Barkov, Montour and Verhaeghe. You threw in Bobrovsky. That makes five. Which is it? Are you just completely uninformed on hockey or do you have a math problem? I agree, you posted what is essentially a self kick in the nuts. |

so we acquired anthony rizzo? he going to hit some home runs for the flyers? - 2Real
Russ Cohen doesn't think he will get a sniff in the NHL, his skating is the issue. Still, he may carve out for himself a nice AHL career and organizations need that also. |

You are lacking knowledge of the sport. Ekblad is not even the best defenseman on the team. You've embarrassed yourself, again. You are the king of self inflicted wounds. |

Scoring 70pts a season does not make a player elite IMO. Barkov is an all-star, but I would not put him in the elite category. Tkachuk on the other hand is elite. Bob on a good day is also elite. |

Morgan Frost still not signed. Is it the summer break or something more? If the Flyers were to trade Frost, could they get back a good defensive prospect? |

Oh brother! Barkov has had seasons of 96 and 88 points. This past season, he only played 68 games. His P/GP average was 1.15 which ranked 15th overall in the NHL. When you're a dominant player on both sides of the puck and are high scoring. You are an elite player. |

Bill thinks he will be signed by September. And only to start worrying if he is not here by the start of camp.

Here is the deal. You make a move like that to win a cup. And that team has no chance of winning a cup. It is a "win now" move with a team that doesn't have a "win now" roster. They have a "win then" roster.
Pens fans are loving it as a last gasp. But when they go out in the first or second round again, up against the cap, with an aging roster, a bare prospect pool, no first round pick next season, and 3 more $10,000,000 years of EK at 34, 35, and 36 years old...I don't think they will be too happy about it. Especially if he holds to form and gets hurt again. Having played 53, 56, 52, and 50 games the four seasons before he finally played all 82 last season.
I also see the thought process of trying to win while they still have a high performing 36 year old Crosby, a high performing 37 year old Malkin, and a 36 year old Letang who had a stroke last season. But how much longer will they be productive enough at that age to carry that weak roster?
I don't know. We shall see. - MBFlyerfan
Crosby has shown no signs of slow down, dude had 93 points last season. With the right group around him he can basically will his team to the cup.
The defense will be better and that will make Jarry better.
The question is about the offense, can they score enough goals, they did not last season. Getting EK will add goals but it will not be enough.
Having Guentzel out for 12 weeks will not help.

Now it's just "elite"? Stop moving the goalposts. You said stars too. And even that is a misrepresentation. 41 goals makes a player a star. Back to back 30 goal seasons makes a player a top of the lineup type player.
You are making a fool of yourself on so many levels. The Panthers have many top level players on their roster, something the Flyers lack, which was the original opinion you twisted in to this semantic nonsense.
You are wrong. |

Apparently, you are so clueless, you're not even aware of your own posts. You posted
"The Florida Panthers made it to the Finals this past season". Which makes the scope of the conversation, this past season. LMAO
There is only one person who has an agenda here. Made clear by your response with a completely unrelated topic to my post on a Phillies pitcher throwing a no-hitter. The only thing you accomplished is making a bigger fool out of yourself. You continue to show that there are no limits to that.
Now we know what it is. You're completely uninformed on the sport of hockey. |
