To me fighting is entertaining. If it is two willing combatants why would the league want to outlaw that? I do not believe people who do not watch hockey do it because the NHL allows fighting. They don't watch because they don't like the sport. That would be like not watching the NBA because you do not like flagrant fouls. - mickel25
Your analogy is too off to respond. I’ll concede though, that I don’t have data to show how many more fans they could obtain by banning fighting. It is conjecture on my part. |

Let's be honest... most hockey fights aren't even really that entertaining. Just a couple of guys grabbing on to each, one guy falls down, the other falls on top of him. Lucky to see a couple of punches that actually don't hit helmets and visors.
Not exactly World Star material we're talking about here. |

I was not really comparing flagrant fouls and fighting in terms of violence. It was more about the frequency of the two events. Both happen so infrequently that I would assume they have no bearing on a viewer's decision to watch the sport or not. |

Agreed. I think the animosity that they generate enhances the viewing experience most of the time though.
In the end, fighting will eventually get banned outright or the players will stop fighting over the next generation or two.
I am saying I enjoy it. |

Is Tippett inconsistent? Would you be willing to trade Tippett for a defense prospect? - MJL
I would not trade Tippet for just a prospect because I believe he has more NHL upside than Frost has in terms of impact to a game. In other words, I value Tippet more than I do Frost. |

Just wishing the Flyers would have went with a natural center in this draft. Especially with their 2nd pick. - Laceemup88
Otto Stenberg was there for them to pick, but they went with a "prototypical shutdown defenseman" from Elite Prospects who was starting to show some offensive upside. Hopefully Bonk develops. This Flyers simply cannot afford to miss on their high picks in this deep draft, otherwise forget 10 years at this point. |

First, even if you believe the $1B figure, which I do not, it will be the City of Philly that will be spending it, i.e. wasting/stealing it. Talk about pigs feeding at the trough. I am born and raised in Philly, so I am quite qualified to comment on that. Also, mixed income doesn't work. Once gain I speak from experience. You pay a boatload in housing cost and a boat load in taxes only to have your neighbor get everything handed to them and then have them run a meth lab out of their basement (ok, I may be exaggerating here, but you get the point). |

Sports team owners should not be allowed to use public funds to build stadiums unless they pay it back. It's as simple as that. |

There's not much fighting in the POs but plenty of animosity tho, right?
Lot of the fights in the regular season are half-assed, obligatory bouts after clean hits and phony get-the-boys-going/look-at-me-coach bouts between scrubs. That's all bush league.
Make fighting a game misconduct and it'll cut all the low-stakes poop out while leaving fights for the truly biblical situations. |

They're not always entertaining. The fights where there is little actual fighting and it's just wrestling and a few punches landing on a helmet, as Tomahawk described, is not entertaining. |

A fight is a fight. As long as they’re not staged before hand at the faceoff dot two minutes into a game for no reason, I like most fights. Fights aren’t telegraphed like a movie. Of course not all fights are gonna look great but I’m entertained by every spontaneous fight. Even if it’s punches hitting only the helmet. |

I also value you Tippett more but for probably different reasons. I like he can make things happen on his own. I like his speed for his size. I like his physical game. I like his shot. The argument that he’s not as good away from the puck as Frost to me is moot. Most centers need to be noticeably good away from the puck. I know Marner and Stone are the elite two way wingers today but their defensive game isn’t what I notice about them. I think the best two way winger I ever seriously watched was Simon Gagne and not everyone can be Simon Gagne in my opinion. |
