There's zero urgency b/c lots of ppl renewed their seasons and interest is very high right now. - Michael Ghofrani
The above is a very scary statement from an organization management perspective, if it is remotely true... |

Why? It's entirely in line with how 95% of sports teams are run. if the majority of the fan base is happy, and spending money on the team, they're not going to act as urgently/desperately as they would if it weren't. |

I could be swayed either way. I think there's merit to selling high on prospects you've got a gut feeling dont fit into your teams future.
. - Michael Ghofrani
the $500 question
there is 4 fixtures in your top 6
probably 3 fixtures in your top 4
so you have all these really good prospects, at the time, and really need 3 core fixtures added and maybe a third liner or 2 to be difference makers
clock is ticking on tuch, tage, dahlin, skinner
and our gm is making moves like we were in the ECF's last year and need to make that one or 2 tweaks to get to the finals this year |

Tampa going after Hagel and Jeannot screams otherwise and that is coming off of winning 2 cups

I don't really agree with this. If you look at the makeup of most contenders, the entirety of their top six and top 4 is not made up of core players/long term commitments.
Thats financial unrealistic. They're probably short one, and then have to get creative with ELCs, FA's and shrewd trades.
I think the GM is making the bet that one of the current prospects will turn into that. |

I imagine the bar to remain relevant in that part of florida is significantly harder to clear than it is in western new york. |

they had the cap space to get 1 really good d man and a goalie and an upgrade over olofsson for quinn's spot
and plenty of assets to make that happen though
it was bargain shopping in july and we take a flier on a d man that may be a middle pair or may be a bottom pair, and that is assuming samualsson stays healthy and turns into that legit top pair d man
and we overpaid for an aging 6th/7th d man on the decline
and overpaid to keep our 4th line
and did nothing for the wingers for cozen
and rolling the dice on a rookie, 6k and comrie in net
wasted cap space and IMO slow playing the time we have left before dahlin and power get paid and we are a legit cap strapped team |

That's his plan though and people have bought into it. He's not a dealer, I have my guesses on why and ive put that here but like, he's not going to change unless he's compelled to.
And right now, his owner loves him, the fans like him and the players like him. Why would he change?

if you think the fans love him, you do not chat with many people who use to be season ticket holders and have that funk taste in their mouth from the last 10 plus years of play on the ice
the arena is a long ways from rocking like it did in 05 and I think those that think a few 95 point seasons will bring them back, are in for a big surprise
assuming we can get to 95 points this season |

No, but speaking to the new guys who took their season tickets, they are pretty happy. Thats really all that matters isn't it?
I happen to agree with your second point btw but as of right now they seem happy. |

im not equating urgent/desperate with proactive in this context. Winning teams obviously take calculated risks, they dont act out of desperation though, unless there's pressure from the fans/owner. |

but there are a lot of tickets not being sold in part due to the economy, in part due to the current team, in part due to the past 12 years or so of play on the ice
I know a lot of people that instead of buying 41 tickets a year or splitting with a friend, are now going to 4 or less games a year
the owner needs to lure those 20-32 year olds that have watched crap for well over a decade because they have not been raised die hard sabres fans compared to previous generations in WNY

trying to get a goalie, a d man to play with dahlin and a middle 6 winger should not be considered a desperate move with this core and playoff draught though
the wings, sens, pens, are trying to get to that next level

These two are kind of my point though. I dont know what moves were actually out there. Getting a goalie, d-man and middle six winger isnt desperate.
But giving Korpisalo 5 years, replacing Debrincat with the ghost of Tarasenko, and filling out the lineup with overpaid middle six forwards is exactly the definition of desperate.
If you want to make the argument that they should have been desperate, all things considered, that's fine. But they obviously didnt feel that way and DET and OTT did. |

You are lumping urgent and desperate into the same category, and that's inaccurate IMO. |

Interesting, this is the 3rd Article today I read about the Bills. All 3 seem to think the Bills could have a problem. Guess what I saw at TC wasn't just a bad 4 days. - Buff36
Did we read the same article? The only thing they said would be a problem is if Allen went down, and well, duh. That goes for every single team in the NFL if they lose their starter |

Really Thanks for the info. And I would like some one that could even manage 1 game. Cause in the AFC it could be important. |
