To say it's not close is disingenuous as Eichel thrived in the playoffs vs Mathews disappears.

The regular season only has so much value, see Huberdeau as an example.

As of today, I would take Eichel due to cap hit, and playoff performance, and that's not close.

I have no emotional attachment to Eichel, and blaming him for Pegula's embarrassment of an organization for not making the playoffs is the only undefendable statement made in this conversation.

I don't know if you watch the playoffs as the Sabres never make it, but I do, Eichel shined and was the driving factor in the Knights offense throughout their Stanley cup run. That series between them and the Oilers was outstanding.

Mathews and the entire elite core of the leaf's choke every year, you can look that up if your looking for stats.

I'll take the winner and won't lose a second of sleep over it.
