I have no emotional attachment to Eichel, and blaming him for Pegula's embarrassment of an organization for not making the playoffs is the only undefendable statement made in this conversation.

I don't know if you watch the playoffs as the Sabres never make it, but I do, Eichel shined and was the driving factor in the Knights offense throughout their Stanley cup run. That series between them and the Oilers was outstanding.

Mathews and the entire elite core of the leaf's choke every year, you can look that up if your looking for stats.

Literally, Jack never got us to the playoffs once. He joins a juggernaut that had been there without him, wins it, and suddenly he's a playoff dynamo. It's ridiculous.

Here's the valuation that will matter:

Player 2) 476gp 180g 266a 446p

Again, it isn't particularly close. Jack is an elite 1C. AM is a generational goal scorer and the superior player whether we like it or not. And Matthews went ppg in 2023 playoffs btw, so disappeared is probably a bad description of his play.

Eichel almost single handidly carried the roster to the playoffs in the bubble year, this organization was(is) a mess his entire time here.

He acted like an immature kid here, and was named captain. He needed guidance and yes he was a part of the problem but he wasn't the problem.

I wanted him gone as soon as he asked for a trade and was happy when the Sabres beat them for his return, then that book closed.

He is not the only player that has this scenario immediately upon leaving Buffalo:

Skunk
Lehner (short term but he thrived in LI)
Ullmark
Bogosian

that's just off the top of my head, the organization was awful.

If you want to define a player by one series, there's no arguing the point. This is like when McDavid got knocked out by WPG in 4 games, but didn't score in the final two so it was his fault.

Bryson and VO still being here is tough to look at.
