I think they proved a lot of people wrong last season
95% of hockeybuzz said they were cooked from Nov-March on several occasions.
Yet they weren’t knocked out until the final week of the season. - Swedish_Jesus
And they got a lot of help from teams around them, Nobody talks about that. |

On cue, despite petry being cheaper and more effective than both the guys adams signed - ieetbred
Definite upgrade from Erik Johnson.
However, Clifton fits the composition of the roster better.
The need for a defender that actually defends was a need in our top 4. |

Did you cry about not trading for Jeff Petry yet?? I didn’t go back to check. I assumed you did - Sabretooth9
This is a stupid remark, he would have been a good get at that price. |

The only thing that proved to be wrong last year was adams not filling at least one of the glaring holes last year when it was clear they were ready to make a playoff run by january
Now we sit in a similar position. Betting on a rookie goalie to fill one of those holes and not much else to speak of - ieetbred
I'd take that back to last offseason. They were making moves to get to the cap floor, not to address their weaknesses to compete.
One year later, they'd love to give away their 2 UFA signings (Comrie and Lyubushkin) and 2 of their RFA signings (Bryson + Olofsson). |

How does Clifton fit the composition better, we don't know if he can play top 4 minutes. |

They used free agency for exactly what it should be used for.
Short term contracts on depth players.
None of the bolded prohibit the Sabres’ flexibility to add today or in the future |

But Clifton isn't top 4. Never has been
He will get more minutes here im sure, but its a question mark about how effective he will be with them |

This is slightly disingenuous
They had like a 5% chance at making it with 7-8 games left.
They blew it in late February early March.
And if close counted the Bills would be counting those SB rings |

Gonna be a long several months until the trade deadline then I guess for many of you.
Would I have liked more activity this offseason ? Absolutely.
Just because it hasn’t yet, doesn’t mean they don’t have the means to do so.
Perhaps we are sitting here months from now happy we didn’t splurge assets because somebody becomes available that isn’t available today ?

In a 20 game sample size with Lindholm last year he played like one.
Does that mean it will happen here ? Time will tell, just like you said.
But to sit here and yell into the sky like most do on here every day and be pessimistic about the reality of that happening isn’t the right answer either |

This 'there is still time' thing has been used to defend the lack of activity this offseason so why are we pushing it to the deadline now?
And yes they have plenty of means to make a meaningful impact on the roster.. adams hasn't done it once yet in the two offseasons and one trade deadline since I've thought they are ready for it |

I think not making bad moves is just as important as making good ones.
The struggle going on right now is how to improve the team today without:
A) making the wrong move and hurting the team
B) not hampering the flexibility of the team as we move into future seasons when they undoubtedly will need be shrewd with their decision making

It sure is when he was the big addition this offseason
And again 20 games whatever the guy is 28, been in the league for 5 years and has never averaged more than 18 mins a night. His ice time was reduced throughout the season last year ending with less than 15mins in 3 games in the playoffs and benched.
It is 100% valid to question this acquisition as a top 4 addition |

And other then Dimitry Orlov, I haven’t see a d-man transaction better suited then Connor Clifton to play those minutes beside Power or Dahlin yet this offseason.
If somebody wants to go remind Craig Conroy he’s the GM of the Calgary Flames then maybe we’ll get further traction on that.
It’s all a wait and see at the moment |

Yes I would like a player on my team that is better than 3/4 of the Dman I have for a cheaper price than a couple of them. Getting better players helps your chances of being better!!🤦 |

Fair enough. I dont hate Clifton, I think he brings some obvious things we lack but just feel its underwhelming as top 4 and unfair to expect him to be something he never has been
We will see |

No this team is perfect.
There are no holes.
This team was good last year. Why would you try and get better. It’s not like they missed the playoffs or anything…….oh. |
