Patrick Kane is a local boy, almost as good as former Sabres player and local boy Patrick Kaletta and neither were as good as local hero and ex-Sabres star Tim Kennedy.
I watch a hockey match once last year and I thought about how much worse off we would be in the blue-zone with Partick Kame and I for one am thankful he lost his leg in Grenada back in 82. - Jet Jaguar BD

Analytics staff should go on strike, if this happens. - Lunaion
I think their contracts are up next summer so if they don't want them to come back then they should sign him.
I mean if you're going to ignore them outright to make this move why have them around? |

Well sorry I don’t own season tickets and am therefore not entitled to knowing all things hockey, Karen. |

Imagine this summer already has them frustrated. Next summer offers a bit of a clean slate, if you don't do anything stupid.

Even in season. Nothing they've done eliminates the possibility of doing something that moves the needle, yet. |

It'll be bananas. Idk, I get it and I'm ambivalent about the idea as long as it's for one year but if fan boy Terry gives him a 3-year, $22m deal, it's going to be a mistake - Hank Balling
They'd be over the cap this season, so that's not going to happen. |

they did next to nothing last season when expectations were shattered and a playoff spot was in their lap for the taking |

Don't know about the statement above considering they're effectively $2M from the cap, and how little room most teams have to take on cap or be interested in taking cap back. |

I think they're not using them to their full potential might be a bit more accurate. Their drafting/developing has gotten better* and im guessing if they werent here we wouldve seen something really dumb FA.
Clifton is probably their guy, Im not sure it will work out the way they want but idk how they'll use them. |

When you get closer to the deadline, that number will go up a lot. Problem is a lot of those moves are Timo Meier situations where they need a new deal. Giving up assets, NTC's, and getting outsiders to sign with them....not their strength.
Didn't love Chychrun for them, but at least he had some term.

grabbing blah guys with term and giving blah young players term IMO also handcuffs them
greenway for 2 more years at 3
bryson for 2 years at 1.85 mil
unproven comrie 1.8 mil for 2 years
bush 2.75 per for 2 years
hopefully clifton will not fall into that bunch
that's a lot of money when you add it up for crap

None of this is "term" though. you just listed a bunch of guys who will be FAs in less than a year. Clifton is the only guy who got more than 2 years.
The only one i think is likely to handcuff them is greenway |

they were all given 2 year deals which is handcuffing them now which was my point
and greenway does have 2 full seasons left under contract

Except the players that matter the most showed they were ready by the middle of last season, while all the moves management has made the past 2 seasons have seemed to point to waiting until the 24-25 season before believing they're ready.
The inability to deviate from an initial plan when the core players have shown there is no need to wait is a problem. |

Probably a procedural issue with signing a guy that injured prior to a surgery
Teams are gonna want to see what they are buying |

Get the feeling analytics minimalized the damage by keeping the term down on a few moves.
Don't like seeing them as primarily damage control. On paper, they had assets, roster spots, cap, and budget to do more. Big decisions next summer, no more training wheels.

I think if this were true they wouldnt (correctly or incorrectly) add Jost, Greenway and Clifton.
If the goal is the season after, then its a dev year and you dont want any of this on your team, nor would ownership want to have spent over 75 mil.
I definitely believe they want to make "those" moves, they haven't been able to, which is a separate issue. |

Let's try a different perspective: Almost any trade they'd want to make will have to be money in - money out deals due to the performance bonuses their young players have and their proximity to the cap limit.
I'm certain they don't want any of that money carrying over to next season's cap hit.
How many players on the NHL roster due the Sabres have that other teams would be interested in, and the Sabres would be willing to trade?
Kind of eliminates offhandedly saying just deal Bryson, Lyubushkin, Olofsson, etc. to make a deal work, as other teams have to actually be interested in those players, even with only this season remaining on their deals. |

Yeah i definitely feel that too. Idk what things were like for them this summer. I said it yesterday but im stuck between, they were in a position to do damage and, none of the actual moves that happened were remotely interesting or move the needle.

Their interest wont be in these players, theyll just have to take them back to make the deal work.
Highly doubt SJ was interested in granlund, it was the only way to make their deal work. Probably a bit easier to move them once theyve received half their years pay or whatever. |

The bottom of the roster players are taking up a bunch of roster spots and an inordinate amount of cap. I don't really understand the argument that this isn't limiting their options, for this year.
